Ditching 996TT hydraulic clutch assist?
#16
I did it.
I have mixed results. the clutch pedal feels like my grandpa's 1960 tractor...
I also have a different engagement and misshifted a few times.... something I never did before.
Driving in traffic for an hour can be painful.
The plus is that you feel exactly what is going on....

IF I get used to it I might keep it... depending on the shifting issues... I never missed 3rd and it happened already twice... Apparently I have to put the clutch all the way to the ground unlike before when I used only 75% of the travel b4 I switched gears... still trying to get used to it.

I did it and I like it much better than stock. I have had no problems with mis-shifting and the engagement point is very similar to stock. The feedback is great - you actually feel like you are connected to the car on take-off vs. the vague feeling of the stock clutch. It is a fairly involved process to do it right. Now that I am used to it, I barely notice the increased pedal effort required. Even in stop and go traffic, IMO, it's not that big of a deal.
Here is a link to a thread describing what I did: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=88541

I spent betwen $500 and $1,000 on parts: GT2 slave, GT2 master, matching Line and GT2 fork (mirror reverse of 996): The labor will be more than that - I would estimate the labor as $1,000-$2,000, unless your motor is already out of the car, in which case the additional labor would probably be a few hundred dollars.

I know you can spend the $$ on all the parts from the GT2, but i found removing the helper spring was easy ,quick and cheap. It does take some time to get used to it...But IMHO its 100% better, I can feel the engagement point and its simply a better feel then the mushy stock feel. Its not that hard to do to it, and the end result is great.

John,
I did not buy the GT2 stuff like you did. Todd just removed the HYdrolic stuff form my car. You are still 40% less stiff( clutch pedal) then I am. I thought you just removed the HYdrolics. Now maybe you can understand that driving a trackor trailer from the 1960s in Chicago traffic can be painful. LOL
Looks liek you converted to a GT2 setup... I did not...

I had mine removed.

I'd like to have the directions to remove the spring just to try it out. Can someone clarify if if removing the spring gives you as much stiffness and feel as going to the gt2 setup because I am still a little confused lol, thanks guys!
