Guys help convince me !
Whats up guys, im looking to get a car and I was looking into a 2001 or 2002 996 TT. I love everything about the car, the looks, speed, potential, etc... But the only thing thats holding me back is that were almost in 2007 and its going to be a 5 year old car. I mean its no big deal to me, but of course everyone loves the feeling of having a new car. I thought maybe id come to my 6speed members and have you guys convince me..

My friend.. I have my 01 tt for 5 years and I could have sold it for a new one... instead I decided to do a 1000 HP upgrade... and tahst after $35K of previous tuning kits.....
I traded my 1999 VT roadster diablo for my TT and never regretted it...
what are you waiting for...
find urself a nice 01 for 65K ... put in $10K in tuning and no 2007 production car is ever going to touch you...
good luck,
markski

I was thinking the same thing before I bought my '02 TT. Now, I have no regrets. Just buy it. I'd probably look at an '02 over an '01 if you can afford it.

Old only in Years Not Allure!
My TT is for sale HERE if you're interested. While it is a 5 year old car, NOTHING about its exterior or interior appearance will lead you to that conclusion. Having owned other cars with similar performance credentials, I can say the quality of the materials, the leather, the plastics, the CF, and, of course, the paint that Porsche uses on these cars is such that a well maintained Turbo will hold that elusive new car allure well into the years!

I'm in the same boat. Thinking of trading my 01 M3 40k miles for an 01-02 TT.
Can some TT owners comment on maintenance and costs of ownership for these cars. Obviously, it's not cheap, but maybe a general idea of what commonly goes wrong on the older model years. Also, maybe some of you guys who have purchased them recently can let us know how much you paid for extended warranty or if you got it CPO, etc.
Edit: Just read about the 2nd gear pop out issue. Any more?
My M3 has been pretty bulletproof since I picked it up, but the past week has been annoying with minor things going wrong. Luckily I'm still under warranty until April.
Thanks.

M-Phobia- with all due respect, go buy another car!! asking us to close you on buying one of the most unique and spectacular super-cars ever made is like asking someone to make you fall in love. You're either a Porsche guy or you're not. that really is all there is to it. It's not my intention to be a dick so dont take it that way but if you gotta be talked into a TT because it's gonna be 5 years old, you might not be a P-Car guy.
