1st gear hiccup

I was wondering what some of you may think this problem may be. When I take off in first at WOT, I tend to get a hiccup right around 4k rpms, then the car takes off again. This never happens in any other gear. I am thinking it is PSM kicking in, but I am not spinning any wheels at all when I go. Could it be when the car is boosting in 1st around 4k, it is spinning the wheels? Also it is alot colder here in MD...around 45-50 degrees. Thanks for any thoughts or info.

Yep, just did the Beru's at the dealership about 5 months ago, and then changed to the Bosch FR6, during my tranny repair about 2 months ago. I am thinking it may be my MAF or loose O2 sensor since the car sometimes stalls pulling into parking spots or my garage.

when they stall like that quite often it's some type of vacuum leak? Do a pressure test if you can...

Thanks Alex, where would you suggest I start looking for any leaks...around the boost hoses or somewhere else? Thanks again.

Sharkey is right, just had the same thing happen to my car and it was a vacuum leak from a boost gauge test port.

Thanks, I will look into it tomorrow and see if anything looks loose or out of place at all. I did have a problem with my wastegate hoses not being attached when I got my car back from the dealer.

Check the leaks but I'm 99% sure its the MAF. I had exactly the same symptoms.

I have the original MAF that came with the car 5 years ago. I have cleaned it many times with Wurth electrical cleaner and have the 1st gen V-Flow...but no CEL's. When it hiccups, it is a very abrupt loss of power...kinda like hitting rev limiter at 4k rpms...but then it takes off right after the hiccup to red line.

Data log the MAF. Tell me what the rate is at idle and the short term trim and I can tell you if it is on the way out.

Have you tried turning off the PSM as a test? These cars CAN introduce wheelsping in 1st with little provocation.

Absolutely. I sit on the forum and keep saying to myself to turn the PSM off next time I drive...but I always forget to. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks.

If there is a vacuum leak, doesn't the CEL light come on?
