Race Gas

Also, it may help to let it be known that many fuel companies do sell race fuel from their facilities. I know here in Toronto you can purchase 101 and 104 octane.

fwiw guys, european car (a ricer fav) this month did a fairly scientific test of tolulene (at several concentration levels) as well as on two octane boosters (one legal and one illegal). the tolulene was pathetic and can cause damage to some emmision components such as your cats. and as has been mentioned, it's pretty dangerous to be handling and will eat hell out of finished surfaces (such as paint and wheels) during filling. for the "benefit", i'd not consider it too bright a move.

Confused by the answers here .......
The question was: “Should Carl, yes or no, us special gas in a C4S when tracking?â€Â
Unless he is a track junkie, and clearly he isn’t, he will not notice a difference in a C4S on a normal track using 91/93/100/110 octane gas. He might notice a small difference if he were in a Turbo with a modified program (such as Absolute), but I argue he is going to spend most of energy trying to keep the thing from the walls.
At the track events I have gone to I have never seen anybody try to boost the octane with rocket fuel.
Also, leave PSM on. (Let the flames begin!)

Yup, on an NA car, race gas will do very little, if anything. We also had a big discussion a few days ago on here about Toluene, and I believe it's more or less perfectly safe, as it's used as an octane booster in normal gas.

I fill up my S54 BMW M roadster with 76 100 octane race fuel in So Cal. The gas costs $5.39 a gallon. Although the gains are minimal, it does definately make a difference. I notice the car fires up right away and is much smoother on cold starts. The motor runs much smoother and is more responsive. The car also pulls much harder with 100 octane compared to 91. Over on the bmw forums, they did a dyno test on the S54 running different octane levels. They concluded that the S54 doesnt gain from higher octane fuel above 105-106 octane. Dyno results showed that the S54 actually gained 10-15 whp on 105-106 octane gas, compared to 91. Just make sure you always fill with unleaded and dont fill with leaded race gas, or it will fry your 02 sensors and cats. I generally pay about $50-60 every time I fill, after driving with 100 octane, I dont like how my car feels sluggish with 91. Gains might be minimal, but without a doubt there is gains.
