Can the warts on the 01 front bumper be removed?

I have been looking for a TT, preferably an 02, but might consider an 01 for the right deal. My problem with the 01, besides the lack of a glove box is the front bumper. Can the black warts be easily removed without leaving any marks on the bumper, or would the whole bumper have to be replaced?

The "warts" are bumperettes on early production 01 models. According to a friend who has one they could not be removed. He bought a new bumper w/o the warts.

They can be removed but the cost to repair the hole is not worth it. The front OEM cover is not that bad and can be bought at a resonable price.

Only early 01's have the front bumperettes, not later 01's.

The primary benefit of an '01 (and the reason I bought one), is that they're 80 lbs lighter than all the other model years.

For 80 lbs less, I think I could live without a glovebox. How is there such a difference?
