The all wheel drive makes these cars great in the snow and ice. Deep snow could be an issue, but on plowed icy roads a good set of snow tires will get you anywhere you need to go.

I could easily drive mine throughout the winter but what's the point, I rather take it out for an hour if fun was on my mind, otherwise my G35 is great and comfy!
I think it was either Evo or Car that took a Murci on a 2000 mile road trip a couple of years ago to the Arctic circle. It may have been another magazine, but I'm pretty sure it was them. It was fitted with snow tires, not sure if they came from lamborghini or not, but I understand that they do exist for that application.

I have not driven my 996tt in the winter, but my 993 turbo had winter tires on it and got up my steep driveway when my friends front wheel drive honda couldn't!

It is certainly very good on snow tires and not lowered too much.

LOL you guys are missing the point, forget it! Just because there are snow tires, awd system and so on, doesnt mean they were MEANT or SUPPOSE to be driven in the winter/snow!

Some people who have money and these cars as a daily will, but others use it as a weekend/good weather/rain or w/e car! I have 2 cars, why would i put my car through a bad winter and ruin it or not, it just makes no sense from a million different standpoints, my comfort, danger, repair costs and so on!

My 300GE is about to come out of storage (any other US G owners?). I did drive my 993 C4 year round, though.

You have 2 cars......but you don't want to "ruin" one of them
The car behind me went through 7 winters....currently is in excellent condition, maybe will be concoured next year, definately will be autocrossed (and win). All 3 of these have winter fitments as does the AMG on the other side if the garage.
I don't drive em for any other reason than the love of the drive.....not to prove they work, not to prove anything.
I'd fold up the tent if someone told me that for 40% of the rest of my life I'd have to drive a truck or a sedan.....like I said, life's to friggen short. But that's just me...everyone's different, has different priorities, that's great....but to say that people like myself drive for any reason other than we just think it's a hoot.....misses the point.
Have fun, enjoy your winter.......whatever you choose to drive.

I would agree that these cars are supoes to be driven, yet the one thing that would hold me back is the size of thoes tires. just curious, how wide are the snow tires your running on your 996/997 turbos compared to the performance tires your running, because those widths it seems would not deal so well with snow

SOOO TRUE... life is just too short... i like the rims on the 996, those are 17" though, they look rather large for 17s. what size winter tires you running on those?

I run 265-18 in the rear and stock size up front as recommended by Porsche in an earlier article in Excellence a while back.

Nope, they are 17s.
I like to point out to guys who are moving to 19s.... "so they can fill out the wheel well"....that offset & ride height are 90% of that effort.
That car has 17s, 18s, and 19s....all with about the same final offset.
Pirelli 240 Snowsports....235/45....all around.

My dad runs his turbo in the snow. We're on the CT coastline so there isn't much snow. There may be a few inches in the morning but it's gone by noon anyway. And we only live 3 miles from the office. It's definately scary with 19's in the snow and 235's. But hey, it's awd and it's meant to be driven!!

Im honestly happy for you, seriously! But again you are missing the point. I can EASILY drive this through the winter, its just my comfort and a million other things during a nice snowfall come into play, i rather not "worry" out while driving it and take it out at night or w/e and have my fun. There is no fun in trying to get somewhere in the snow also in a sportscar, this is just how i look at it, wouldnt you agree?

In my experience the 996 TT is suprisingly crap in deep snow and frozen roads with winter tyres for a 4x4, my 996 C2 CAB was just as good

I think the key difference here is that you worry while driving your car in the snow and they do not...its a difference in comfort levels. You are saying the risk is too great for you, and they are saying there is no risk that isn't fully offset by the enjoyment factor. Its a personal thing. The cars can handle it, its been proven over and over my 1000's of them that have survived. Its just that some owners are not comfortable...and thats cool, we all value things differently.

as an aside, though, I have seen far more porsche posters and advertisements with cars driving in the snow than I have for any other "super car" maker...
