996 turbo X50 with 550 bhp vs 997 GT3
I need some advice what to do. I have 996 turbo X50 from 2002 with 26 000 km / 16 000 miles. This spring I installed a shortshift, GT 2 brakekit, a GT 3 bucket seat and switched to Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
I am thinking of either buying a new 997 GT 3 or to keep my 996 turbo
and install a H&R clubsport suspension and have the 542 bhp kit from RS tuning.
I plan to have about 10 trackdays in 2007. The turbo is not my daily car.
Please give me some advice.

996TT and 997GT3 were quite different car. I've drove both, after 45min in the GT3, I feel my stage 2 996TT with H&R coilover like a S-Class. TT is so smooth and soft compare to GT3. We try from 1st to 3rd gear, the GT3 is almost same speed as my stage 2. If this is not your daily drive, I will say 997GT3 is a better car for you, especially it will be much more fun at track.

I live in Scandinavia and as far as I knew there are still two RS available to be built in March.
Interesting to hear that a stage two 996 turbo and GT3 are almost as fast.
I thought a turbo with 550 hp would be considerable faster.
According to RS tuning their 542 hp kit makes 0-200 km/h in 11,5 sec and for a GT3 13,9 sec.
But I guess 200 kilo more in the turbo makes a big difference

unless you are a real track guy I would upgrade the TT's suspension and brakes and keep it. The GT3 is a real track weapon, but anywhere else the TT is the better car. And take it from me the TT at the track well set up still does a VERY good job. Also you are not going to drive your GT3 in the snow and the TT is great in the snow!

I just got home after taking the 997 GT3 for a testdrive at the local Porsche dealer. It is a really nice car and the suspension is great. The acceleration feels different then my 996 turbo X50.
If I keep my X50, does anyone have any experience of the KW 3 suspension?
I am thinking about to let Manthey Motor do the installation and setup or I maybe go with H&R clubsport.

JICs, H+Rs, KWs are all in the same "ball park" and properly set up I think anyone would be happy compared to stock, in a car mostly street driven.
JIC is probably more of a track oriented setup and can be made to be full track if wanted.

If you will take it to Manthay then have them install their KW kit. They are a bit different than the regular KW V.3 and they have the knowledge to set it up per your requirments. I've got Variant 3's on another car and I love them.

The problem with horsepower is that you adapt to whatever level you have, then it never feels fast enough. Balance, poise, and handling are attributes that you can savor for much longer without getting bored. Lots of people love their Miatas, even after the Mustang guys have blown them into the weeds from a stoplight.
Now, to say GT3=Miata and 996TT=Mustang is ridiculous, but the GT3 will satisfy you more than a TT ever could, regardless of power output.
