Mmm I think we are all getting mixed up confusing asking prices with actual sale prices or dealer pricing.
Whilst I can understand a lot of TT owners being unhappy with hearing Mannheim auction prices or Ebay sale prices, they still reflect genuine market pricing. I appreciate P dealers ask $10K - $12K over these 2 markets, but this just reflects their mark up.
Some people only feel secure buying from a P dealer in which case they can expect to pay, for the sort of vehicle we're talking about, $10K- $12K more than what I would call, the real market. Personally I find this difficult to comprehend but hey everybody is different.
What I find hard to comprehend is some of the asking prices on this Forum, mid $70K's to early $80K's for 01's is just so far from actual private sale prices to be laughable.
To the OP, I would not pay more than very early $60's, my immaculate 1 owner 02 Aero purchased last month with 43K miles was $57K. Has anybody else got any recent real market purchase prices to offer the OP?

Your car had 43k on the clock. Thats alot of miles to me and seems fair to good price. I just bought my 02 with a few options x50 and only 14k and paid 70k. I thought the price was fair to ok. I looked I seen a few low priced cars but all had a issue (in my eyes) Dealers and private party's in 100mile radius of me wanted 76k-82k for a 02 with similar options and mileage. Believe me I looked! On another note I did see some very low mileage (4k-10k 01's from $64-69k. I just did not want a 01.

Where anyone is finding nice cars with a color thats not (WTF), low mileage and no skeletons for 55k. Find me one! I did find a couple salvage titles that looked great for close to that

Thanks in advance.
Here's a good deal for 2003 996TT - manual; mileage a little high at 36K though but buy it now price only $65K and it should still be under warranty right?

Not quite sure what your point is here, but given you found your car on Ebay I'm surprised you couldn't find another 02 there for under $76K - $82K !!!! Try a country wide search, perhaps limiting your search to under 100 miles may have been a bit restrictive........

Here's a dealer asking $68K for a car they bought for probably high $50K's.

More from Autotrader matching your criteria:

Slate Grey! Only 9700 miles and 19" Champion wheels:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...0&cardist=1199

Nice Guards Red with NAV but tiptronic:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...1&cardist=1509

I believe those aren't firm prices since the dealer that has that black 996TT on ebay lists a higher asking price on the same car on Autotrader.

I like to look at what I buy. My car was one owner all records. To ship a car from texas is 1k-$1200(Using a good shipper) Plane fair and travel expenses $1k. Plus mines a x50 so I really don't think for me that car would make sense. Now if I lived in texas and the car did not have like 15 owners. Good service history. Clean car fax. I would be all over it. Within 250miles there were not many cars that fit my bill. I wanted a nice low mileage car close to me with good service records. It was a plus that it was a private seller.

I know if I was not picky and would settle for color options and much higher mileage I could have found one for what you paid. That was not what I wanted though.

Used cars are like snow flakes no two are identical so prices will vary

The price of admission into the world of 996TT has certainly dropped. Compared with what I've read so far, i paid a **** load for my TT but like a blind school boy in love I didn't care. I'll dump even more money into it for mods while it continues to depreciate only cuz I'm a car fanatic. Come Jan'07, another thread will be debating prices even lower so I don't see the point other than buy the car you love and don't look back!
