Az Guys - Need help with ???
Guys
I was just thinking about how I need to go the DMV on Monday to register my newset addition: 2001 996TT. I just got to thinking about a few things and I need your input:
1 - I know if you buy a car in Az from a Private Party (Private Party to Private Party) you do not have to pay Sales Tax when you register it at the DMV.... I dont however know what the rule is if you buy a car from a out of state Private Party (California) and register it in Az? Does the whole "No Tax - Private Party" break still count?
2 - The car I purchased is an 2001 so I believe that DMV will require an Emissions Check. Any car 2002 or newer does not require one according to the DMV website.... What does this inspection (Smog Check) consist of and will my car with the following mods pass? I know that Cali's inspection is MUCH tougher than Az but still am a little nervous if mine will pass with the following mods:
Thanks

- Protomotive 5 bar FPR (optional: adjustable FPR);
- Protomotive ECU (600hp);
- Headers (ported, ceramic coated);
- Greddy PRofec B-Spec 2 boost controller;
- EVOMS Billet Diverter Valve;
- EVOMS V-Flow intake (dry filter);
- EVOMS silicone f-hose;
- Fabspeed Sport exhaust
Thanks

You do not have to pay the tax even on the out of state private party purchase. As fas as emissions with new cars they will just hook up their scanner to check obd2 fault codes, cat visual, and gas cap test. With the AWD they will not do a rolling test so you don't have to worry about that. As far as passing the smog as long as you don't have a CEL or any fault codes in the ECU you should be alright(I would check with todd@evo about that) and the visual you should be fine even if you dont have cats. With the Porsche visual inspections the monkeys at the station don't know what the heck they are looking at when they look under the Porsche. They have even pointed to the turbo on my car and asked if that was the cat....

You have to make sure that they dont perform the ecu test via the port.... if so then make sure that talk to todd about it.... some tuners turn off the O2 sensors so that the cats don't throw cels....
I would just first do it and see....

I was thinking there was no Tax, but started getting nervous about it as the day went on.... S
As far as the Inspection & Emission Testing, I hope everything will be fine. I believe that the Fabspeed Exhuast I have has 100 cell cats on it? yes, they cant do a roller since its AWD and a "TIPP", I did not even think about that today! I hate the idea of them hooking up to my computer but I guess I have no choice?
Now, can will they stick the "Sniffer" in the tail pipes even if the car is not on the roller to check anything?
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the advice! I will call Todd at Protomotive on Monday and see... Hopefully he did not turn it off on this car .... Can hooking their computer nto my OBDII port screw anything up in my programing? I may as well just do it and see what happens like you said...
Do you think the Fabspeed exhuast will be ok?

Registered my turbo here in AZ from out of state, no sales tax, just regular registration taxes- about $800 per year, ouch! Had to do a type 2 inspection but that only took about 5mins,no smog here in flagstaff.
