Carrillo/Pauter Rods for 996tt

I contacted the above two companies yesterday about making a set of rods for Killer Angel that would be rated for 1000 hp. What I learned was neither of these companies have ever made rods for the 996tt. They have for the 996. Both asked if I could send my stock rods to them so they could look at them to come up with a design. I am going to have two sets made for myself. I can obtain a better price if I buy five sets. If anyone is interested, give me an e-mail. They will take about eight to ten weeks to produce.

Chad,
They HAVE made them. They just don't know it. No need to send them rods. Tell them to make a 993TT rod with the 996 wrist pin size. That is it. You will be in business.

Glad to see you looking at Pauter rods. Have used and sold dozens of sets of them.

Great product and group of people.

i think what he's saying is that they should not need your stock rods because they are the same as 993TT rods which they should be familiar with, just with the 996 wrist pin.

Chad -> Mabey you can organize a group buy for the 1000HP / 8100 RPM rods if you layout the details of K.A. Otherwise, who would need them?

Chad, here are 993tt dims. I think 996tt are the same.
center bore to center bore 127mm
wrist pin bore 23mm
big end bore 58mm
wrist pin end thickness 19.5mm
big end thickness 18.9mm
I have found one set. Carrillo
I spoke to Carrillo though and they have a different production number for 993 and 996

Chad I think you need to stick with titanium to minimize rotating mass. Pankl will build to spec. titanium rods. Minimum order 18 rods.

EL750,

The Ruf rods I sent you are the same type rods I am currently running. I orginally bought a few sets. The rotating weight is very important. I believe the stock rods are 565 grams versus the Ruf rods @ 355 grams. The acceleration difference is amazing. My only concern with the Ruf rods is when the nitrous is accuated. We have a two stage system which does not accuate unless the rpm's are greater than 5000. Then it adds 10 hp shots every one tenth of a second. In 2.5 seconds it is at maximum power. I would not dare accuate it much below 5000 rpm's nor would I feed it much faster.

I have been advised not to push my luck. The Ruf rods were not designed to take the power/torque of this nitrous system in combination with the 104 mm pistons. The 4L motor produces more torque at an earlier rpm range.

My intention is to rebuild my first motor using Ruf rods and staying with the 100 mm pistons. This would be a different type motor that should produce a reliable 750-800 hp.

Without the nitrous, the Ruf rods are the ticket. With a 250 shot, I am asking for trouble which is compounded with my added displacement of the second motor.

I was told that they build the rods for Porsche Racing.
Those are rated 550hp/8500rpm. I guess they could manufacture to your spec. TTP has an offer from them. The point is, what will the final weight of those be, at your specified specs, and what resulting loads on crank and bearings will occur.

By the way did you get the RC eng . injectors?

I spoke to John @ RC Engineering last Thursday. The injectors were originally suppose to ship to me on February 29th. He said they will now ship on the 23rd or 24th.

Is there enough space to raise the fuel line? I think these are about 10mm taller than stock.

Yes, Todd at Protomotive has done this. He uses a peak/load box and low impedence injectors which are the same height as the RC Engineering ones.
