After 8 days of sitting battery is weak! Why? Normal?

Hello,

I recently purchased my 02 911T and after traveling for 8 days probably 9-10 days sitting, the car barely started. I was told by the dealer that this is normal for porsche and I should invest in a batter maintainer. The car was in sleep mode but perhaps my battery is undersized?

What is the stock CCA on the car? I'll check what is in my car currently tomorrow. Or perhaps battery is going bad?

Thanks,

get a battery tender...this happens to a lot of us due to the high current draw when the car is parked.

I had this problem in my previous c2 whenever it sat for more than a week and when it got cold was even worse. Haven't had that in my TT, but I do drive my TT more than I did when I had the c2.

Mine sat for 6 days this week and came out and the battery was dead! I had to charge it for about 4 hours. Its getting cold here in the east, so I guess its an even bigger drain on the battery. But, everthing I have been told or read suggests using some type of charger when not driving for long periods.

Mine got to where it would only last a day in "sleep" mode and stil start. I got tired of it and installed a yellow top Optima battery. Since then no more problems. This battery is a deep cycle/ starting battery.

Do you have any model numbers or sizes to recommend? Also does the car lose any memory while changing the battery?

Your lucky guys, ROW cars have a battery backup, so each time the battery gets to a certain low level the car alarm goes off (it thinks someone is tampering with it), and for me that's usually through the night (**** the neighbours right off)

Dealer installed a new battery after the car had been sitting in the showroom so that I could test drive it. There seems to be a constant dimming light on below the rearview mirror that I can't turn off???

gtr, the model Optima I installed is a D34 78/950. I didn't lose memory on mine the way I installed the new battery. I used my battery charger set on "trickle charge" clamped to the battery connections to make the swap. This way I didn't have to get the radio code to reset the radio.

I've experienced similar problems after the car sits for a few days....i was told the alarm drains it.. so leaving the car unlocked prevents it...

i always keep mine plugged in. the factory batteries won't handle more than few drains before they're smoked and won't hold a charge. the porsche battery maintainer is great. plugs right into the cig lighter.

i use the "battery tender" on my motorcycle. similar product. my vehicles always crank right up no matter how long they've been sitting. i would use the batter tender on the pcar too, but it's harder to find a way to hook upt he terminals with where the battery is located in our cars. the cig lighter is pretty simple.
