911 TT for S55

I know these are 2 different cars but I am considering a trade.
My wife's MB E-Class was rammed by someone running through a stop sign. I was at a dealer shopping for a replacement S class and came across a S55 in stock. Platinum Silver with charcoal interior, prettey well loaded with the features we want at MSRP of $119,750. I fell in love with the car. They were asking for $20K over sticker and "came down" to MSRP while offering $110K for my 911TT X50 ( 6700 miles, original MSRP $146K, I paid $20K below)

Do you guys think it's a reasonable deal ? On one hand I want to do it but I will probably miss the turbo too much. I suppose I can keep the turbo but my wife thinks I am spending way too much cash on cars. I am not sure what to do.

Picture of my wife's car linked below. Both she and my son walked away.

The S55 is a pig, so as long as you don't try to attack tight corners hard, the trade would be ok.

My M5 feels like a total hog even with the most advanced suspension upgrade compared to my ex-Turbo, and even more so compared to my GT2. Nowadays it seems like a chore to drive the M5.

The S55 is the ultimate highway bomber and has lots of room. But drive the 2 cars back to back and you will hate driving the Mercedes if you are a real driver.

I hear they're changing the body style of the s-class in '6 - I'd go for the e55 instead

what a joke, trading a porsche turbo for a S class ... sorry Sir, but I respect someone who would trade it for a EVO before what you are contemplating.

seriously, what a ridiculous topic IMHO ... 911 TT for S55 ... why not post ... 911TT for a vacation home ... what's the F'ing difference. anyone who would think the trade doesn't deserve a Porsche IMHO.

I think it's a legitimate thing to do if you are done with sports cars and are moving on to a different place, automotively speaking. As alamein said, from a comparison point of view it's ridiculous b/c all the cars have in common is they are both cars and the prices are close. Make this same post on a M-B board and you will get decidedly different opinions than here.

The number for your turbo seems AWESOME and I would get rid of it before the market slumps further...especailly once the 997 is out...

We were looking into trading the 7 for a Supercharged S55 a couple months ago and found a number of examples with 2-3k miles for $100k.....

I would look around for an s55 with low miles you will save at least 20k. they drop alot the first year.

I say keep the Turbo and get a low mileage V8K S55. That way you can have the best of both worlds. The S55 may be a pig, but its a damn fast pig!

It's done slumping. It's even rebounded a slight bit since 996 TT coupes are basically out of production. That price will be there later as it is today.

No one even knows if the 997 will have a Turbo or if it's 998 for the Turbo or if it's next year or 5 years from now. Don't speculate based on lack of knowledge.
Based on today's market that's a decent offer for the TT, but I wouldn't expect it to change much either.

I also agree w/ the others. The S55 would be so boring in comparison, but if you're done w/ sports cars, it's nice.
I too would also rather have the E55 by far.

Keep the Porsche, you will get sick of the MB fast, get a nice SUV and keep the Porsche, a great combo.

Keep the Porsche. MB in general, even the supercharged ones don't feel like driver's cars. ****, the 745i feels more sporty to me than the S55 and CL55. MB just doesn't seem to want to make drivers cars ever. I guarantee you will hate it after 1 month. Not to mention the S is getting restlyed in 05 or 06. As far as price, do not pay near MSRP, they are going for less and as someone mentioned, you can get one with 1-2k miles for under $100k. Check ebaymotors.com and www.cars.com. On the cars.com, do a nationwide "advanced" search for 03 and 04 S55's. IMO, keep the turbo, buy an 03 E55 AMG for like $75k or an RS6. You'll save $40-45k and can still keep your Turbo.

golfnut,

I actually own both cars (01 TT plus an 03 S55).

As everyone mentions, there is an obvious night and day difference in the cars. One is performance and one is luxury.

For a Mercedes, the S55 is very nice. It is great for families due the larger back seat (especially compared to E55). It is an awesome road car and the power (in a straight line) is incredible. My wife is in love with the car and will not let it go.

It all depends on what you want to drive.

Used prices are definitely going down.
