So how do you give or take away rep points? Is that done by rating a thread? And how do rep points correlate to the green dots under your rep points? Thanks in advance for your answers, Scott.

I'm not a fan of the rep system, since it gets abused so often...but here's how it works:

-You can't take away rep points. You can only give good points, give bad points, or give none at all.

-Rep points are given based on specific posts, not threads.

-Rep points are automatically anonymous to all users except moderators (Mods can see who they were sent by. Not only our own rep-points, but others as well). But the adult thing to do is to give your reason, and then sign your name in the comments box...even if the rep you gave was bad...so the person knows who gave them the rep points, and why.

-Green squares mean the person has more good rep than bad. Red squares would mean more bad than good. Sometimes grey or black squares will show up on the user's "recent reputation received menu" that looks like negative rep (rep menu is accessed by clicking the UserCP link on the top left of the page) , but it's actually because that person received rep from a user that doesn't have enough rep power to be green or red. Usually someone with very few posts or none at all.

-The more rep you have (called "rep-power"), the more you can give to another user.

-You can't give the same member rep over and over again without giving it to someone else first or you'll receive a message that states: "You must spread some reputation around before giving it to _______ again".

The steps to give rep are easy. Just follow the instructions on the picture below:
