HRE wheel opinions, experience with durability/bending
#16
While the forged centers are lighter and stronger than their cast equivalents, the aluminum rim halves are a weak spot. Of course, modular wheels can be repaired (1-piece cast wheels are discarded once bent) by replacing the inner or outer rim half, depending on the location of the damage. IMO, the strongest wheel would be a 1-piece forged wheel.
Based upon my personal 7 year experience running 3-piece modular wheels (both Fikse and HRE), I've had no bending problems. I do try, however, to miss those big pot holes.

Forged 1-piece are extremely strong, certainly much better than 1-piece cast.
I like multipiece wheels because I can replace the rim halves if I happen to damage them.
Personally, my wheel choice would be BBS, Cargraphic, or Work. Racing wheels with proven durability...
