bad clutch slave - check it
when i upgraded to gt700, i had to get a gnarly clutch to hold the power. breaking it in was a b**** but, once broken in, i still had a fair amount of trouble driving it. i thought i may have been retarded and/or uncoordinated b/c others w/ the same clutch seemed to like it well enough. i could take off, hills were fine (you just mash it), but i couldn't drive aggressively - the clutch was just too unpredictable. as a result, the car wasn't as much fun as it used to be zooming around the city.
2 weeks ago i noticed some fluid in the trunk - turns out it was tranny fluid. take it to sharkwerks, get a new slave cylinder, and the car proceeds to pop an O-ring on the way home - you've gotta love this car - top 3 reliability my ***. the pressure from the new cylinder broke an old o-ring in the line leading to the back of the car. so sharkwerks picks up the car, fixes the o-ring (on a holiday), and i'm off.
although the assisted clutch 'feel' of a 996tt sucks, the clutch is now predictable. i'm still no master (mainly b/c there isn't much feel) but i can now zoom around the city aggressively.
it's fun again in retrospect, the slave started failing right around the time i got the new clutch and i just through it was the character of the new clutch.

Chuck is right about the clutch slaves. The LWF is still harder to drive than stock obviously but we've been seeing the clutch slaves go out more and more on these 2001s Anyone doing a new clutch upgrade should really check out the condition of the slave/fluid. The seals go and that's that... Stayed tuned.. we're trying some stuff out on our TT first but I too hate the hydraulic assist...

So weird how Suman and I were talking about his clutch and how it stalls easily or is hard to drive, and this pops up so ironic!
Alex what's involved again with removing the hydraulic assist or slave cylinder for a stiffer pedal and more precise feel?
The clutch in my GT2 even with LW flywheel and upgraded clutch is so natural feeling and precise its AMAZING and highly recommended to anyone in a turbo wanting more clutch feel. Its not stupid heavy , its just perfect!
