Contact Tony @ Voltphreaks.com about the battery, I had a friend make the bracket and he is happy to do a run of them, If Tony is not interested in buying a batch I could ask him to make a one off for you, even though im in the Uk its so light the postage will be cheap. The battery is unbeleivebly light and can be switched on and off via a remote switch, also if the Volts drop below 11.9 when its parked the bat switches off and you hit the livener button to switch it back on and start the car !!! BUT they are not cheap, go look at the voltphreaks site, very interesting. You can get away with the next one down (the 750) but I did not want to take a chance, I also had my alternator custom built to produce around 14.2v which is perfect to charge an Li battery

Hi,
I thought about trying to lightning my car a little more and the focus has now ended up on the original GT2 doors!
What is the weight of these?
I have heard that there are aluminum doors on a specific model of the 996, and they would weigh around 11 kg (24 lbs) can this really be true?
Which model would it be, maybe the Cayman R?
If I want to buy some variant of lightweight door which model is the best if I want a door that is reasonably sealed, so it does not rain in?
CUP doors are obviously a nice alternatv but they are not waterproof and they are a bit too costly I think.
My car weighs today without petrol and driver 1390 kg (3060 lbs)
Therefore, I feel that the doors would be a big step down in weight ...

Hello from Finland Barth, hope to see you at the Ring some time. Would be cool to drive fast with 2 996's (I've spotted you on youtube).
I haven't heard 996 GT2 had alu doors...(993 GT2 and 997 GT2 had, no data points found that 996 would have). It was big news that 997 Turbo came with alu doors and alu hood which put the total weight down for 20kg or so.
You can get impressive weight savings with CF doors...
OEM door weights 16.8kg a piece (source: Techart catalog). CF doors with their weights are available from e.g. Manthey, Techart, Cargraphic and FVD web sites.
Most of them weight around 6kg-7kg a piece. So you can get around 20 kilos of weight saving, and that is without removing door interior panels and without adding extra roll cage bars, as these doors are perfectly streetable as they have the safety bar included. Only problem is the cost of these doors.

I unfortunately I have not planned any visits to the ring this year ...
I will go all in on this new series instead http://landracing.se/stac-2014/
Not entirely impossible that it will be a trip to Finland :-)
I know that the GT2 has steel doors,i have heard that some 996 had aluminum doors such as the RS?
I've heard lots of different information on the original doors from 20 Kg to 40 Kg!
The doors you mention is of course an ideal option, but I think they are a bit over prized ...

As for the doors, gutted TT doors with nothing in them and most metal cut out weigh 20-40 lbs or 10-20 kg I can't imagine any stock door weighing anywhere near that. CF doors with nothing in them weigh 10-15 lbs or 5-7 kg. Once you add window motor, glass, carpet, sub, etc. it's still quite heavy.
