8 sec EVO wants to kill me

A guy named Tom with a heavily modded evo just moved to town and some friends of mine into the street racing scene have been calling trying to arrange a race between us. He wants some money on it, as much as $1500 from the rumors. Pretty funny but I am always game for some excitement. Rumors are that it runs 8's I have never heard of an evo running 8's but I dont know much outside of the porsche world. Obviously if he is anywhere near 8's I will be annihilated. People exagerate so much its silly. Anyway, another friend found a dyno sheet from his car, he said it was with 110 octane, the car made 581 peak awhp and 535 awtq. The curve isnt as peaky as I thought it would be. He has GT35, and a built motor. So here is the question, i am thinking if we both run on 91 will I stand a chance? Maybe from a hi speed roll? I dont know much about the gearing on them. Im sure he has the faster car but mine is lightened a bit, 3300, and RWD, so maybe with my gearing and torque, I have a chance.

I know quite a few people with the EVO's and they are pretty fast. I know quite a few that run low tens easily and if set up right could dip into the high 9's. They take to modding really well. If he does in fact have the built motor it could be possible.

Here is some info I found by doing a quick google.

In 2005 the AMS Evo 8 T3/T4 kit was powering most of the fastest Evo 8’s in the country. Curt Brown, Dan Bajalis, Thomas Nagorski & Al Friedman all piloted their AMS powered Evo’s to low 10 second and even 2 high 9 second quarter mile times. In September 2005 the AMS Drag Evo 8 shattered the long standing ¼ mile record for an Evo 8 by running a 9.41 @ 150 mph.

In 2006 AMS continued to run quicker times in the Drag Evo 8 working down to a 8.97 @ 165 mph.

The built motor, gt35r's and all that are good and with the right fuel, the evo's will be very fast. I know they can dip into the 9's with that setup. Like rwm514 said, if both cars are going to be running 91 octane, im not sure how it'll turn out. How much boost can an Evo run with 91? I think that'll determine the results.

See if you can get him to give you a 3 second jump on him and then you won't lose by as much. So, you want him to lessen the performance of his car by using lower octane so you can compete? Too funny!

No. Both cars should run what they want. That is what racing is about. If you are racing to highlight driver's skill, then you would run 2 of the exact same cars. You are trying to compete against a car and you can run any setup you want, as can he. Handicaps are for golf.

Why don't you give Markski a shout he has a 10 sec. EVO and knows alot about them? In the end you will still be driving a Porsche and he will drive or trailer off in his "Mitisa*****y". no flaming jk; they are great little cars from what I hear and read. Good luck.

If your best time is a 12.1 like it says it your avitar I would stay far away from any evos. I know some that are low 12's with basic bolt ons and stock turbos. If its a built motor stat FAARR away!

I can tell u first hand...... I have both cars and my evo is fully built with a gt35r... at 91 octane he will do 20 psi(unless he is dum)... thats 380 awhp.
I raced with my friend at 20 psi and he in his X50... I beat him but my 1 car ...
so go get him....

BTW there are only 2 8 second evo8s in the world and one of them is in Chicago... with 550 awHP hes only running low 11s... or high 10s...
