OK, So We Are Fast BUT How Many Annual Miles?
I am new to this web site (and the many characters that hang around here) and it sounds like we have some VERY seriously fast machines in our respective garages.
I am curious how many miles most members put on their cars in an average year.
I am selling my 1996 993 Cab, which I put about 5,000 miles on per year, and just purchased a 2003 996TT with only 6,000 original miles (less than 1,000 per year). I increased the TT's mileage by almost 10% the first day I had it.
How about you? What's the average annual mileage you put on your Turbo?

I am in a similar boat. I got my 02 996TT with 6,700 miles, and in the 3 months I have had it I put 1,000 miles on it. There was a thread a few weeks ago about guys that have "garage queens." Low milage cars they don't drive, but because they are not really collector cars that are increasing value, you should just drive the cars and enjoy them.....since they will depreciate anyway.
I will drive my 02, just not going to put it through the abuse of a daily driver.
And, anyway, black is to much of a pain in the *** to keep looking good to drive it everyday!
Just my 2 cents.

I drive about 20K per year split over 2 cars. 12-13 on my G35, and an estimated 7-8 on my GT2. The GT2 is a thrill to drive after not driving it for a day. If I drive it 2 days in a row the second day is not so thrilling.
At a cost of nearly $2 per mile, it has to thrill me, so I drive it about 3 days per week. However, the car depreciates while sitting in the garage, so it should be driven fairly regularly. Also, the car had only 2800 miles on her when I got her 7 weeks ago, so she needs to be driven.
My overall view, then, is that driving her every day is a waste, but not driving her at least twice a week is also a waste. Also, it is a very bad idea to drive her in the rain w/ 597 to the rear wheels, or in traffic w/ a heavy racing clutch. I like to have her in situations in whcich I can open her up a bit.

I have four cars which all function equally as my daily driver. My insurance has them listed as part-time leisure vehicles due to the amount of mileage (about 5K each). I vow not to have another garage queen since cars are only a waste of money when they are not driven.

Comes as close as owning a beautiful beach house, but never using it for fear of wearing the carpets or scratching the wood floor.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!
I drive my car like crazy in the few months I can here in NE Ohio. I put 13K miles on my car in the first year and it serves as my daily driver in the summer.
I had two musclecars that I restored and together have more in them than my TTS new. I thought I was going to show them and couldn't stand them sitting in my garage, so I drove them too.
Anyone who pampers their Porsche's in my opinion are wasting their money. These cars are meant to be driven.

BTW, I paid $500 for one year of insurance with FULL coverage and max liability. It's almost a sin.

Martin,
Here is my long term plan for my GT2: For me it is the ultimate car and I will never upgrade. I plan to drive her as she is (I might do a couple small things like upgrade the MAF) for 6-8 years with the goal of about 75K miles.
Then I am going to completely restore her with a Protomotive bottom end build and full 700 package. Then I will drive her for 6-8 years more until I hit 60 and she starts to become more car than I want (I might be tired of working so hard to get in and out....but then again, I just might repeat the process).
The above will cost about 70 K each time but it will resole the resale problem.
In the meantime I will get wifey a CUV and maybey switch the G35 coup for a sedan or maybe an M3.
Sound like a plan? Are you getting used to your 480 to the wheels yet?
Ari, how many miles are you logging per year?

Anyway the car i havent been driving much cause of weather, but its again, as i said veryyyyy fast (far from 480 whp) i can guarentee it, car feels like it has 100 more hp and tq + then claimed, i will dyno but most of all do the dbox runs and strip, but in reality my DE's which i cant wait for, starting in March!
I ran an unconfirmed 7.x something 60-130 run, my DV's were going ont he run as seen in the video, had a passenger and that was with 2 shifts, which means this car MOVESSSS!!
Anyway i can see putting a good 6-8k miles on this car in the year i will prob. have it, most will be my exotic runs and weekend drives, track days and all accrued during the Spring/Summer

Martin,
If you get bored w/ this car, exactly where do you go? If it is as fast as you say (over 500 rwhp) then a stock CGT won't be much faster.
Why not instead do something like what Mark or Alex did?

Eventually i would prob go proto, thing is the Carrera GT while it might not be as fast as a 700+ hp and tq GT2, it has so much to offer in many other areas!
60-130 in a CGT is 7.2 btw
