Porsche: Hypocrites?

Porsche insists that car magazines clutch drop their cars during instrument testing. Those sub 4 second 0-60 times sell cars!!!!!

The hypocrisy of it, though, is that if you broke a transmission or driveshaft driving the car the way Porsche encourages during testing, they'd refuse a warranty repair.

I think you are comparing apples to oranges. The testing for performance numbers in some way has to be standardized and also achieve the best numbers for a certain make. However it certainly is "abusive" to the cars being tested. But only to get numbers to compare apples to apples.
Certainly no one is advocating doing this to your personal car so Im not sure what you mean by "porsche encourages"?
Is it written somewhere that porsches recommends dropping the clutch at a drag strip for the best launch, I would love to read about it.

So bottom line is you are right and I have had to buy and entire tranny rebuild due to "track abuse" so I know what I am talking about!

As a working motojournalist (motorcycles) I can assure you most magazine testers would never drive their own vehicles like we drive loaners. And many of the manufacturers are ok with that assuming we don't do anything really stupid (like roll a vehicle or crunch one).
On the other hand I have seen a few over zealous testers wad some pretty expensive bikes, often into each other. Ouch!

Some of the mags (Road & Track comes to mind) have described their test procedures. In R&T's case they talk about getting a good launch without being abusive on the car/clutch, i.e. the way most of us would drive. The amazing thing is they got a 3.9 0-60 time in a Carrera S driving that way...

Personally, I could care less about the 0-60 time. I've had a lot of cars that I loved that didn't have the "best" 0-60 time...
