EVO Wastegates

EVO Wastegates
I would like to increase my boost/throttle response/reduce lag. It seems (based on a little research on this site) that the EVO wastegates should accomplish this goal, especially since I am running GT30 turbos. Any opinions?
I will need to retune my ECU, yes? If so, I should probably replace my wastgates along w/ everything else I am contemplating doing (Proto MAF, maybe fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and injectors).
I will call Todd (Proto) and Maybe Rob (S-Car-Go) and get their opinion. Also, I have been thinking of maybe having Tommy Bahn do the work. He is new to Porsches, but legendary in the Supra scene. He is also 20 minutes from my house. Those that know him say he is very talented and should make the transition to Porsches quite easily.
Thanks

It depends on how Todd setup your program. Keep in mind that the wastegate mod increases boost to at least 1 bar and is not adjustable. So if your controller is set for less you can not make less. If target is 1 bar or higher then no, you will not need an ECU tune. The WG kit does keep the gates closed longer and will not open because of back pressure from the turbine. So it does give better response.
If you fo ijectors, MAF and so on then yes, you will need an ECU update.

Thanks Stephen,
I think I am making about 1-1.1 bar on low boost (not sure since I like to keep my eyes on the road when going fast) and about 1.3-1.4 on high boost.
So this upgrade will give me better low end then.
I will probably buy the mod from you, Stephen. By the way, isn't it interesting that I am getting all my most recent upgades from Stephen (GIAC) on a Todd (Proto) tuned car...see people, can't we all just get along? LOL
For those of you who don't know him, Stephen is a GREAT guy!

Then you should be just fine. It will allow the boost to come in faster and therfore give better low end. It will also help the controller to keep a tighter range on the boost since it will not have to cycle so much to control the gate.
I agree, I have no beef with any tuner that is actually a tuner. We do what we do, they do what they do. I respect anyone that makes HP. Keeps the game fun and intresting.

Mark,
I have thoroughly reviewed my parts inventory (from the previous owner of the car who had most of the mods done) and I couldn't find any reference to upgraded springs. And everything was listed (even O rings and tire bolts). Also, isn't adjusting the springs less effective than going with the EVO wastegate? I will call the guy who did the work to double check.

Im pretty sure u have the upgraded springs.... if not I would stay away from any springs until u do the MAF and fuel upgrades... (we dont need anymore boost) on a 5 bar FPR.

Mark,
Its confirmed: Wastegates/ springs are completely stock and untouched. So swapping for an EVO is the thing to do right now.
I want to get this done before Supra Nats. I will eventually replace my MAF and possible fuel pump, FPR and injectors. But doing everything will require retuning and I don't want to risk not making it to the Nats in mid March.

I would think twice about it.... call Stephan but I think u should leave it...
u have big turbos so u dont want to be keeping that WG closed anymore then u are already..... especially on a stock fuel system.
what are u boosting now?

Actually, I just spoke w/ Rob and the wastegates are upgraded....he said I need to talk to the guy that dynoed it, not the guy who supposedly installed the upgrades....I need to get to the bottom of this.
In any event, Rob is perfecting his MAF/Fuel pump/injector combo and that (in about 6 weeks...too late for the nats) will give me 50 more horsies.

Sean,
You can find out what psi the WG opens if you have a Mitivac or similar pump with an accurate guage. Pull the hose going to the wastegate, pump it up and when you see the actuator move to its fully open position, the guage will show you your answer.
