Carbonissimo and Rockitman, thank you very much for this latest info. I might then go with something else. Reason I went with 18's is for track and street use but also for quick availability of tires in case I got a flat.

so if what you guys are telling me about the Michelin's I might just wait until they get massed produced.

Fred -- I agree with Jack, John and the others who recommended the Pilot Sport N2's for the street. IMHO, this is the most tech advanced tire out at the moment. For the track, I'd go with the Sport Cups.

Jack -- You found the N2's in OEM GT2 sizes? From Wheel Enhancement maybe?

 

Hey Bob -- long time no talk.

Wheel Enhancement has the Michelin PS2s (sizes 235 and 295) in stock, although those sizes are on "consumer hold". I believe that means they are available now from Michelin or Tire Rack (through an authorized vendor) if a VIN number is supplied with the order. The rears (315) were supplied by Gert about 2 months ago, but should be available in the US by the end of the March.

As an aside, I was recently given the opportunity to test out a set of the new MPS2s in 19" sizes -- 235x35 and 315x25. We've got them on my son's Turbo mounted on 19" TA rims. Preliminary results indicate that these are great tires and will offer those running 19" rims a no compromise high performance tire every bit as good as the best street 18" N-spec tires available for Porsches. They are very sticky -- so handling is definitely as good (my son thinks better- more seat time required) than the 18" P-zeros he is currently running on the car. Road noise (cruising on the freeway) with the 19" MPS2s is much less than the P-zeros, and most surprisingly, the ride quality of the Turbo with 19" rims and the MPS2s was better than with the standard 18" hollow spokes mounted with the P-zeros. Of course, we were expecting the ride quality to deteriorate slightly when going to 19" wheels/tires due to the smaller side wall, but.... no such result. We've got some more real world driving to do with these tires, before we finalize our review/comments and supply them to the appropriate parties.

Ok, what do to now.

I called Tirerack and here is the deal.

1. PS2's. Have front in stock but rears (295) on back order. They state could be 6-8 weeks.
2. Have BridgeStone SO2's in stock, but they admit have more road noise then Michelins.
3. Have Yoko AVS in stock, less road noise than BridgeStones but not as sticky as other tires.
4. Have continentals in stock (I didn't inquire much about these as no one mentioned them to me on the board).


So what should I do now?

Hmmm, maybe keep your 19's? What are the chances that in the same 6-8 weeks "good" 19" tires might be out?

 

CAN'T do Doug. My Kinesis rims are due to arrive in 3 weeks and I want tires on those bad boys.

Fred, get the SO2s for now if you don't want to wait. Do you really care about the road noise? Your car is already so darn loud that I doubt you'd be bothered by the tire noise.

How about 235/40-18 and 315/30-18's for the rear (GT2 sizes?). Will these fit? These are both N2 tires and theyappear to be a good match in diameter (revs/mile is very close). Of course, availability is still an issue
