Ruf MAFs
Why does ruf cars almost never blow their MAFs, as I under stand they use stock MAF and with a K&N or BMC filter and have no problems...
If almost all MAF problems start after tuning, can it be because of the tuners ECU program..?
I hope no tuner here gets angry , just wonder why..

I suppose the purpose of your comment was to suggest that Ruf is superior to all other tuners, at least from a MAF perspective. You win.
Welcome to 6Speed Ruf 550. If you genuinely want to know the technical causes of MAF failures, do a quick search . . . the subject has been discussed extensively. Alternatively, e-mail PorschePhd, as he has a keen understanding of the issue.

How do we know RUF cars don't blow mafs? they only build some 30 cars a year... and those RUF 550 HP cars will never blow mafs because ur nor exceeding the limits of a stock MAF.

ps. I have 3 computers by 3 different tuners with HP ranging form 540 hp to 1000 hp and never blew a MAF...

The problem with blown MAF's, lies with velocity increase caused by the
EVO V-flow air filter system. The venturi design accellerates the air across the MAF. I too, have replaced 4 MAF's in 2 months after purchasing
my 640GT. I was told by Todd Zuccone @ EVO that the MAF calculates the
volume of air entering the engine by the film wire. Which maintains a certain temperture using electric current. As the air passes over the "hot wire" the air mass flow is measured by how much current is needed to maintain a certain degree of temperature (180). Where the problem mostly occurs is when you accellerate then let off and immediately get back into the throttle.
This causes a spike in the electric current burning out the "hot wire" MAF.

That is correct Craig, just call your local Porsche dealer and they will have
3-5 MAF's in stock at all times. However after Porsche replaced 2 MAF's in
30 days. They would no longer warranty the MAF's for 1 year because of the
V-flow. That constituted the call to Todd @ EVO.

I have no intended to create controversy on my first thread, thanks for your "answer" Craig... Maybe that is the problem and you are an angry tuner...
Because I am not exceeding the limits of a stock MAF with ruf 550 it is no problem? what is the limit for a stock MAF Markski..? I thought ruf RT12 also use stock MAF with over 700hp...

here you go:
The stock MAF makes it's peak voltage at 1400 kgs/hr, or 51.33
lbs/min, and at 10hp/lb/min, that's 513hp max. But those engine's don't
make that efficiency, so maybe 490 or so hp, they're pegged.
Now, the input voltage is 12v, so the thing keeps making more output
voltage, but the ecu has a diode clamp on it to keep it from exceeding that
voltage, so the thing just keeps drawing more and more current till it pops.

I removed my V-Flow and replaced it with the stock air box...Courtesy of
EVO(03/06). I replaced the stock filter with a K&N and have spaked the car
for over 5k with no problems. Coincendence?.... I think not!
The V-Flow is not a bad system, it only identifies the weak link.

My point is.. how can you calibrate correctly an ECU if one of the most important variables is not being monitored... think logically...
This is what I have on my car.,.. good for 1000 HP. do u see the maf and the maf housing. Im sure RUF has to have a way to adjust these as well... otherwise they would be blowing them too...

now I dont have that problem but if, where can I buy those upgrade MAFs?
I know ruf use stock MAF on RT12 but uses a bigger intake system before the MAF for more air to pass by the MAF slowly and maybe thats why the diode doesnt pops...
