Tiptronics shifting problem?

Does anyone know why it automatic shifted when RPM hit at 5K before I use sterring wheel shifter? (PSM off, switched to manuel 1st gear, Stage 2).

Friends of mine also had same problem. (same car and same set up)

Thanks for your valuable info!!!

If it happend after you tuned the car, check with your tuner that he down loaded the right ECU program for tiptronic.

Good luck

GL996TT -- Mine does the same thing when I'm less than WOT in first gear. I was told that even in "M" mode it will shift for you in first gear, but will hold to redline in gears 2 through 5.

the car learns your driving patterns and responds accordingly. Do several runs with pedal to the metal let the car redline all the way through (as a professional on a closed road of course) Then try it again, it should take you to redline but only with the pedal to the floor otherwise the car short shifts it for you because it doesnt think you are under or want full acceleration.

Now I am confused. In "manual" mode I am told the transmission should not shift for you by itself in gears 2-5. I have experienced what Tom says about the Tip learning your driving style in "automatic" mode -- after some WOT driving the transmission will downshift much more quickly, and will hold the gear after abrupt "lifting" of the gas pedal -- but I was not aware that there was any "learning" in the "manual" mode.

Maybe I should have gotten the 6-sp manual ... but then there's the 2nd gear pop-out I would be concerned about ...

I have the tip (02). Mine will shift if you don't but not at 5K it shifts at redline. But I do run it hard (sometimes) and I have the Protomotive tune. Mabye send Sharky a PM. I have become quite fond of my as some call it "monkeytronic". It's a blast to drive the only down side now is with the increasded power I will be needing new tires!

Just came back from a short drive ...

I just drove around for 10 minutes in "M" mode and here's what I've found for my car ('01 996tt Tip): 1st - it will shift at redline automatically at WOT, will hold up to redline at whatever spped/RPM unless I'm at WOT and lift quickly, then it will upshift to 2nd; 2nd gear -- holds at redline, no automatic shifting at redline even with quick lift; 3rd, 4th, 5th gears hold in the low and mid RPMs.

I am not sure what is going on with the above-referenced Tips, but when driving in Manual mode, a Tip is supposed to hold its gear right up until redline, in every gear, then upshift to the next gear if you rev past redline (not before).

BTW, I have a heavily modified Tip tranny (sent to Germany for mods by 9ff, including replacement of every gear, additional, stronger cluthes, etc, at a cost approaching $10k). It works perfectly. I may be selling the tranny in the not to distant future. If anyone is interested in buying the finest Tip available, that can smoothly handle all the power you can throw at it, send me a PM with a reasonable offer.

Regards,

Craig

Quick question regarding the tip tranny. Is the x50 and regular different? Im assuming 9ff can also upgrade the reg tip if its different? Is there programs to raise the redline to 8k for tips? Thanks.

Porsche insists that the x50 Tip is different and stronger (I have an x50 Tip). Yes, 9ff can upgrade an x50, as they did mine. There are not any programms currently available to raise the redline for Porsche Tips, although it probably can be done.

Thanks Craig. I was asking about programing because I remember someone(im thinking it was you but i guess not) stating that they finally came up with a solution and was able to raise the redline.
