a) they should be watercooled (requires fabrication (see Markski's or Divexxtremes' pictures)
They don't run any hotter than journal bearing type turbos, nor are they more easily damaged by the heat levels seen in oilcooling-only setups. You can simply plug up the watercooling holes if you want it to run roughly the same temperature as the stock turbos. Many aftermarket setups run without watercooling, just oil.

I'm not saying this is ideal, but it should be roughly "as ideal" as our stock oilcooled setup, shouldn't it? I agree, if you're going to get it done, you may as well get it done "right". But, apples to apples...

What about with a K24/26 style turbine outlet? Would this negate the need to modify the exhaust flange?

Yes,
no need to modify because K-24's are made for our header/exhuast set-up
(but remember the K-24 for a 993TT is different than the K-24 for a 996TT)

Make sure you know what you are buying!

you are not referring to Garrett GT ball bearing turbos are you?

Because yes, the GT ball bearing turbos DO need the water cooling unless you want the 1200+ degree turbine wheel to transfer the heat through the shaft into the bearing and essentially fry the bearing almost instantly on a GT35R (the larger the turbine, the quicker the bearing with fry)

GT25's have gotten away without the water cooling because the wheel is rather small and does not transfer the amount of heat a GT28/30/35 would

the only large BB GT turbos that do not need the water cooling are the GT47R and GT55R which use a different bearing set up and have heat extractors build right into the CHRA

Which turbos would you recommend for the 996tt for maxing hp with the stock fuel system, ie 600-650hp. Do you offer any ecu tuning for your turbos or recommend a tuner?

dual disco potatoes (GT2860RS) with .64 A/R's

we do not offer the ECU tuning, GIAG, Evo and protomotive are options

I've run GT28R turbos without watercooling, even in very tight confined applications with a lot of heat. It works just fine, as long as long as you do a proper cooldown before shutoff.

The purpose of watercooling is not to keep the CHRA cool when running. It's to keep the oil from coking when shut off. This is why the hose runs uphill to turbo and uphill away. The boiling causes a thermal siphon to pull the water through until the temperature cools to the point water no longer boils.

Again, I agree watercooling is ideal. Will not connecting it cause things to fry instantly? I haven't seen this to be the case.

Sally,
BTW, you should water cool Garretts if you put them on our cars.
