Don't ever go through an automated (touchless) car wash w/ GT2 wheels !!! I did 'cause I used to take the TT with OEM wheels (no problem). Then, after installing the GT2 wheels, I scratched both left side ones. The rail is no good for 315/30/18s.

To pass the time, there are usually a lot of cute girls and nice cars to look at while you're waiting. Take HeavyChevy's advice...always ask for clean towels/chamois when wiping down at any car wash including this place. I always tip the guys 5 bucks and they love it. The owner has a 997 S Cab and his wife has a Cayenne S (both lightly modded), so they like our cars and take extra care. One bad thing is they can never seem to put the seats back in the original position after vacuuming...what ever.

Another place I go is in the parking garage of the Century City Mall. $20 bucks. Very convenient...you can go see a movie or shop or eat at the very nice food court. Moses is the owner's name and he knows how to make his customers happy.

Lastly, and I have never had my car detailed there, but Lucent has a guy that comes around once a week and does an incredible detail. I just can never find the time to leave my car there for a few hours. Ask Arling for his service.
I second this. I've also used them. Both great places.

I went through a touchless, no rails, no tracks, just pull up until it tells you to stop.

It missmeasured my turbo, and the heavy steel wand crawled accross my front bumper and tore a deep gouge in it and scraped all the paint off.

I won't drive anything through any type of automated car wash now, touchless or not.

My husband would never even think of putting any of his "special" cars through a car wash... he spends quality time with them. He uses special car towels, waxes and anything else that will make the car sparkle... If he could use a special type of water he probably would. We have only had the porshe in the winter months so it has not been that bad but as soon as the weather breaks and he drives it more. It will get wiped down as soon as he returns from his ride... I would love the quality time that he spends on the car... to be spent on me. But once I learn how to drive manual he can spend the time cleaning it when I return from my fun rides.

I'm so HAPPY to hear all of you do your own washes. I cannot tell you how much I cringe when I see a Turbo, or any P-car, at a car wash. The chemicals they use at the touchless is so harsh...think about it. The wash has to do the work of a person washing with a wash mitt. You can spend as little or as much as you want now days with technology and cuttingedge products. I tell my clients that if it's therapy, take your time. If you're in a hurry, try this. Rinse the car down, wash it with your soap and water, and the final rinse, use De-Ionized water. I use CR Spotless system. The DI water allows you not to have to wipe down the finish as it will dry the spot-free. No wiping windows, wheels, chrome tail pipes...you get the idea. There is also another product on the market called Optimum No Rinse wash. For those of you in the cold, or water restricted areas, this product allows you to SAFELY wash your car with only about 3-5 gallons of water. You simply put the solution in water, use a wash mitt to wash small sections, and wipe with a microfiber towel. I've heard great things from other detailers, clients, and forum members. I'm giving it a try today on my truck and will post pics in the Detailing forum. Hope this helps guys.

You are a "convulsive" detailer?

convulse (convulsed, convulsing)
  1. a violent shaking or agitation
I bet you do one hell of job when it comes to waxing.

I own a car wash and won't put my Ruf through it. As a matter of fact, I don't put any of my cars through it. Thank god not everyone thinks this way or I wouldn't have any business!!!
