Ever Use A Car Wash?

I have never taken any of my Porsches through a car wash for fear it might damage the finish of parts. I use one for my Nissan Pathfinder without a second thought. Am I being obsessive here?

Does anyone here use an automatic car wash for their P-cars? It is a lot easier for a quick cleaning, but not worth it if it causes any damage.

Your thoughts?

there was one I used BEFORE my car became 4 inches to the ground...and only once at that...

however, I usually only use it during winter for my RS6.

If it's a C2S and you i used it as a DD, i wouldn't care so much. But a nice 996TT in good condition, only for sundays, i'd wash it by hand

I go WAY out of my way to use a self-service jet wash. There's no way I would ever let someone even at a "hand wash" touch my car with one of those grimy mitts that has been used for wheels, probably dropped on the ground, etc. And the TT doesn't even fit in an auto wash, and I don't want my rims scratched by the tracks you have to squeeze into anyway.

Absolutely NO. Take your time with your own mitt and towel and you will never be surprised by a scratch or other damage.

I would never you a public car wash, ever! Besides, I am not sure if the rear tires would fit into the tracks. Take the time to hand wash. It looks better and gives you some quality bonding time with the car!

I ran it once, and that was the last time, eventhough its not a TT, I just love taking the time to wash her. Just feels very rewarding when you do it yourself

Didn't think of it that way. I totally agree.

OK, seems we all agree to hand wash, for lots of reasons. So any ideas on how to keep the undercarriage clean? It's one thing to have a nice shiny surface over the paint and glass, but what about everything else?
Thanks.

I only use Chevron's touchless car washes: cleans undercarriage, no scratches, wax, and saves about 1 hr/wk. As soon as I get home, I'll hand-dry with spray-on detailer and clean off wheels. Even the handwashing at $25 isn't worth it knowing human error is involved.

In L.A., I go to a $7.95 100% handwash place that does a decent job in 1/2 an hour. Wash, vacuum, windows and tire dressing. Can't beat that.
