Little Help: Steering Wheel/Airbag

Has anyone removed the steering wheel and airbag from their TT? I'm looking at doing this and going with the clubsport wheel - love da suede... however before I do this I was hopeful someone has done this and knows how to "trick" the computer into thinking the airbag is still there. Anyone know the resistance value of the darn thing?

Thanks in advance

So you are not going to have an airbag at all? I replaced my wheel and airbag with an FVD wheel and airbag....just disconnect the battery before you start.

Just disconnect the battery, so you do not get an airbag light.
Behind the wheel are two holes and you need a torx to get it out, then pull the airbag out, then detach the small connector. Make sure you mark the center hub (guess that is what its called), so when you reinstall the new wheel, it is centered. Should not take more then 30 minutes the first time around to get the old wheel off and new one on. Trust me, I have installed/reinstalled my carbon wheel about 10 times (can do it in 10 minutes), since it is never perfectly centered. I just gave up and will have the dealer center it when they do an alignment.

Removal is easy, getting the light off all depend on some one out there making a clip. I think your gonna be hard pressed finding out the resistance at the dealer, hopefully someone on the forum has dealt with this before. Wish I could be of more assistance, if worse comes to worst you could always pull the bulb out of the SRS warning. Just remember the wear you seatbelt.

I have the wheel off, that was the easy part. Now I need to know the resistance value of the airbag so I can place resistors inline so it will not have a light.

Correct I will not have an airbag on the drivers side

Thanks

Can't you get a suede wheel with an air bag?

I think the point is being missed. I'm looking for the resistance value of the airbag.

I suppose I could get a suede wheel with airbag... however I don't particularly want a suede wheel with airbag.

Thanks in advance

Hahaha, I got the point a long time ago man! You could try measuring resistance across the connection. The only bad part is that messing around with any airbag can potential be dangerous. It would almost be worth it just to pop the bulb out. I remove the airbags out of all my cars, I don’t like how they look and I don’t particularly like something blowing up in my face. I always end up doing a lot more stripping weight wise to the car, and eventually the gauge cluster comes out for dash lightening and I just pop the SRS warning light out. Good seatbelts and a cage are a better substitute for an airbag anyways.

Where do you live in the NW by the way?

Yes not a big fan of the airbag. Don't like the whole idea of being hit in the face with something. I agree good belts, seats and proper sitting are the best ways to keep the grill in tack. I have the Tech Equipment bar with cross brace too

I'm going to mount the air bag to a stand and measure the resistance across it. I don't really care if it pops. I have no need for it.

I'm in Portland. Ever down here?

Thanks,

Sometimes we have group drives down to cannon beach. Maybe next time I can give you a heads up and see if we can meet up. The more the merrier.

PLEASE promise that you'll video the attempt. Best would be if you put something in front of the air bag while trying--like an ex or something.
