Extended Warranty- Yes or No ??
I'm purchasing my 2nd 996TT- a bone stock one owner '02 w/ 33k miles. Had Porsche dealer PPI (buying car from independent) which it passed w/ flying colors. Also have complete, meticulous, maintainance records. This car will see limited use- approx. 2500 miles per year. I'm trying to decide whether or not to purchase an extended warranty. The Prizm warranty I'm considering is about $3200 for their Supreme (best) 48/48 $200 deductable plan- $150 more for $50 deductable.
Putting only 2500 miles a year on the car I'm thinking that the warranty is a bad deal. On the other hand repairing the tranny- 2nd gear pop-out, would cost $2K-$3k should that failure occur. $3200 plus $200 per visit turns into $4000 pretty fast. $4000 will pay for lots of repairs. What to do ??

It depends on how long you would like to keep the car. I put about 3,000 miles per year and so far nothing has gone wrong for the past two years. Other than the normal maintenance and a battery, everything works fine. I am selling my car so it would have done me no good if I purchased an extended waranty. Good Luck.

In general these extended warranties are a waste of money, IMHO. The car you are getting has already proven itself and should be relatively bullet proof.
Also alot of bad stories of non coverage with these warranties.
Oh yeah there is always the guy who gets some big ticket item fixed under extended warranty but it is rare.
My vote is no, and I practice what I preach!!
Congrats on the new car and save you money for a SSK an exhaust, and an ECU flash.
