Then why is the GT2 such a big deal? I agree, I love the way my car handles, can't imagine anything better, mind you, I never drove a GT2, maybe people who have driven both could chime in.
Andrew, have you ever driven a GT2?

Very cool, could you please elaborate the difference between the two, especially when it comes to handling.

GT2 feels more nimble, steering more communicative, the way the tail progressively steps out in a high speed drift is amazing. GT2 has a bunch of lateral grip to boot, even more than a Turbo.

It's really hard to describe why it's better than a Turbo, if you drive them both back to back it becomes obvious.

Turbo is like having velcro around the corner. It's grip, grip, grip. GT2 is more like a ballroom dancing partner where you and the car work in harmony to get around a corner quickly. More involved and requires more concentration, but oh so satisfying!

The question is highly misleading. There is alot bigger difference between the turbo and the GT2 than 2wd versus 4wd.

From my experiences driving 996tt, the car does not seem to handle great, it just grips like there is no tommorrow! It hangs in there at what you think would be impossible grip levels. 2wd cars seem to bit and then follow rather then providing a constant grip. I personally prefer 2wd, but I think everyone has their own opinion and feelings on the issue.

Tyson is right on the $$$$. GT2 rocks! The Turbo is good too, but the car is the driver. In the GT2 you must drive the car! It doesn't always forgive inappropriate behavoir behind the wheel. Not nearly as much as the TT. But the rewards are poetically just.

The GT2 is MUCH LESS forgiving in the turns then the 996TT, if you come in too hot it may just bit ya...

If you drive by the seat of your pants ... 2WD is the way to go. If you are a little more uncertain the 4WD is much more forgiving but, for me it limits the hell out of having fun. Right when you get a TT really hung out shuts down. It's all in your personal style and taste. Personally I like to wad up a car and throw it into certain turns and a TT doesn't like that all.....and I really really really hate that you can't left foot brake or properly heel toe the car. I know some of that can be turned off, however, if you try to drive a butt stock TT to the limit... it won't let you.

Cary:

Why can't you heel toe downshift with a TT??? I mean were talking about braking, depressing the clutch, down shifting, blipping the throttle while still on the brake, then letting the clutch out when the revs match the wheel speed. I don't see why that can't be accomplished with a TT???

He was wrong I think. The TT is no problem to heal toe.
The only correct thing I saw in that post was the left foot brake issue. It does cut throttle if you try it too long, but you can left foot brake with just a tap which has proved to be just fine for me.

It will also let you drive it to the limit just fine. Even the pros will say that. Specifically, Marrio Andretti said exactly that.
