OT: Ruf Yellowbird in Best Motoring video!!!
here's a rare one i think!
an old "Super Battle" race at Tsukuba:
To all of you who are convinced that the Japs rig these races so that their cars (particularly the NSX) do well, please do watch
interestingly, while the F40 soundly trounced the CTR in the actual race, the Ruf managed to just beat the Ferrari in the "time attack". though the F40's lap during the race was still noticeably quicker than its lap attack time. (probably driver? though it seems like all the "time attack" laps were done by the same driver).
anyway, here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s5LZptSoz0
enjoy!!!

Great vid. F40 is in another league from all of those cars. The CTR is a step down from the F40, but still way out of the leagues of the other cars.
That GTR had some pretty crappy tires...did you see all the tire flex at the first turn.
The CTR would have passed the F40 in another 5 laps.
Hesperus, your car is **** above everything. You must be in heaven.

Im not so sure, that track is really tight, and the ctr is a little monster. You have to be really careful when you put the throttle down. So im not surprised the lesser cars kept up with it on the tighter parts....the straight is a different matter entirely.
Put some Pilot cups on the ctr and
Thanks for the great find JV!

for outright, absolute speed, the japanese have been out of the game for some time. and even when they were churning out the NSX/RX-7/GTR/Supra, they were limited by their gentleman's agreement to limit cars to 280hp (nominally). even when some of them "cheated" and were maybe putting out as much as 320HP, they've never really gone ape-sh*t on power.
if i wanted to go really fast, i'd go euro every time.
having said that, credit where its due-- the japs have produced some impressive machinery, especially when you consider the pricing and reliability. and Porsche manufacturing wouldn't be where it is today, if not for the Japs (they hired consultants who were ex-Toyota, to show them how to become more efficient).

If you want a similiar modern track car comparo to a stock 3rd Gen RX-7, think of a Lotus Elise - hardly a track slouch. Is an F-40 a nicer car? Bet your azz it is. Does this help it on a tight track? Nope. Power is often over-rated. It's only put to use on a more open track (ie the Ring) where it makes a significant difference.
