Not so unbelievable or unique:
See http://www.ccwheel.com/files/wheelprofiles.php
Raceworthy lightweight wheels for around $2600. Add
$1200 for the PSC's and you get $3800 (plus shipping)
every day. They will get the tires, mount and balance,
and ship.

You are of course welcome to buy BBS wheels. I am sure they are
fine. CCW wheels do have a good history and reputation among us
racers in the U.S. We also never see Michael Schumacher racing a
Porsche either, but some of us who race in the U.S. find that they
do suffice...

advantages of forging? Metalurgy was part of my engineering degree
and from what I can recall, the advantage of forging over casting
is that it subjects the metal to strain while it's still plastic and being
forced into the mold/form, as opposed to simply pouring molten metal
into a cast, and this pre-stressing deforms the grain boundaries which
makes crack propagation harder. Machining is done after-the-fact,
after the metal has cooled, and is usually kept cool purposely during
the process, to protect the piece and the tool, so there is no way it
would undo the core molecular organization of the wheel.
And did you see anywhere where CCW wheels are machined at all,
or that BBS wheels are not machined to tolerance after forging?
Again, I'm quite sure BBS wheels, especially their race wheels, are
excellent. I'm just saying that CCW wheels have held up on my 996tt
in races where other stuff broke because of the jolts of hard landings
after getting 4-wheel air. Just trying to save the brothers some money...

except as a satisfied customer. One thing that differentiates CCW
from FIKSE and others, is that CCW will make race wheels to your
width and specs, with offset to the millimeter, not the typical quarter
or half inch, which really helps if you're playing with very tight clearances.

Forging is great, far better than cast, no doubt. There are different methods of forging which produce varying degrees of strength, suitable for different applications and uses. And there certainly is a value factor, as in how much is it worth for strength and low weight. Machined products from forged metal is fine for many applications, and offer value. The difference would be in the tempering after the machining, as so much heat is created on the machined surface, the molecular structure of the metal changes. Most machine forgings do not get re-tempered to the same consistencey as the original billet. Die Forging through multiple dies retains and controls the flow of the metal throughout the entire structure of the wheel. The old adage "You get what you pay for" still holds true. I wish Schumacher had driven for Porsche.
