Modified OEM Muffler 996TT

A very popular mod to do to many cars. Same concept, I did this to my '02 Z06 but it was a little more invoved - as the stock exhaust is Titanium and the additional tube and wlding rod needed to be titanium. The resultant sound was quiet at cruise and incredible at WOT.

Must be cold in the garage, kitchen is better.

4 years ago I cut up my OEM exhaust with a specialist, completely drilled out the 2nd set of 400 Cell cats and replaced the first set of 200 cell cats with 100 race cats. I never had any cells and super boost but the sound was missing, so for the last 2 years I have been running a techart supersprint.
I am going to do this mod and put the original item back on again
thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drilled a 1/4" pilot hole then used a 1" drill bit that was plenty long enough with the tips removed. Wound up with a nice oval approx 1" x 1 3/4". Plenty loud enough at 3/4 throtle and more, yet still quiet when crusing. Had two choices on the drill bit, Made in USA for $42.00 or off shore for $19.00. Cheap one worked fine for just 2 holes. Good low dollar mod IMO.

Awesome addition to the TJW thread. I am at month 3 or so now, no issues....and I just love the sound. I bought some ebay tips (dual)....
Hope everyone else is having success. I am at about 2.25" in diameter (see my photos)..... 1" seems to be much more quiet...perhaps the way for cabriolets to go if adventurous.
Hope everyone is going well. Clearly, there are a lot of ways to get this done. All seem to work out well.

I’ll do one better and show you what you guys are actually doing. I did this as the #1 mod but wanted to see what I was actually doing or if there was a better way. I ended up dropping the exhaust and cutting the top half off to see what went on in there. It was horrific to see the number of sharp turns etc on a turbo car ! I ended up using a hole saw the same size as the exit pipe and letting the pipe wall be my guide to an even cut. I remember it sounded like I thought the car should have but not to obnoxious. Sorry for the crappy phone pic it was all I had before I tig welded to top back on.

This is going to sound odd, but....
Who has the biggest holes here? How big is too big? Is there such a thing as too big?
I had originally drilled a hole in each side that was the size of a #9 Unibit (1 5/8ths", I think). It sounded great and seemed like it added some power.
Yesterday I drilled a second hole on each size, with the two holes connecting, creating somewhat of a figure eight on each side. The car got louder again, but I'm not sure if it gained anything.
Any thoughts anyone? Did I go too far?

I dropped the oval that I cut out inside the muffler. I was going to finish drilling and the peice fell of and I haven't been able to get it out. Any suggestions. I have tried putting tape on a coat hangar and haven't been able to get it to stick. I also beleive it may be hard to find the piece now that I have driven the car with this condition. There doesn't seem to be any kind of rattle from the piece. I feel like an idiot for making such a juvenile mistake. All suggestion are appreciated.
