My Fabspeed Gen1 was fun for the first 15months.....but now it was just getting annoying....so I went and had this done....as apparently this is what RUF do but with a single 100cell cat.

Everything that you try to do really will not help the exhaust pips are small and mufflers are restrictive. That exhaust creates so much back pressure.

I think you are wrong.......and this is my proof as to why......

I have a similar set up to yourself and John Speed, Stage 1 K24 Billet Hybrids (basically K24/18Gs), intake piping, air filter, 1 bar actuators, 72lb injectors, diverter valves, Fabspeed Gen 1 CATLESS, Proto Tuned.

The Fabspeed Gen 1 was getting a bit annoying after 18months of having it on and UK race circuits have a noise limit of 98-105db static, my Fabspeed was 110db so I couldnt really get the most out of my car and I wanted to do more track days. I was very hesitant at putting the stock exhaust on, so I thought I'd just do what I can to minimise restriction and back pressure. I had the cats cut out completely.

Then after fitting this oem modified muffler I data logged and sent back to Todd K to make sure the car was not running lean or dangerous in an areas of the map. Did the usual durametric logs, 3rd and 4th gear so it could be clearly seen. Todd got back to me last night saying the map is still perfect, no need for any adjustments.

I will admit the car has a bit more lag but hardly noticeable when you u are going through the gears...and after a sound test at track day i did at the weekend...she got 99db static!! WOOHOO

So you cut out the cats and it appears you removed the end piece that was on the end of the cats. Did you also punch a hole in the exit pipe? More info please.

Trust me search on here already been done people with the stock exhaust lost hp 2 inch pipes will not be good for you. I run 84mm to 74mm exhaust. Try this go to your room door and try to fit 10 people through at once now double that door and let the same 10 people go through LOL Same works for exhaust.

No hole in exit pipe. Where would I put this hole without it being blocked by the tips?

Once you drill that hole with the hole saw you will by pass that inner piping and flow more, thus more HP...IF you take one cat out of each side ,it really helps then..
It does work ,,I have seen it on the Dyno..
Others have even gone as far as replaced that stock piping with 2.5'' piping..

Exhaust Mods

I'm new here and have been reading this tread all the way back to it's beginning. I own a 2001 996tt with mild modifications done by Sambo-tt who replaced the exhisting cats with just 2-200 cell metallic cats and because the check engine light came on repeatedly he an upgrade via GIAC K16 The car is fast enough the sound the car makes is the ONLY thing that drives me nuts. I don't think I will cut a hole in the muffler to fix that problem but was wondering if doubling the size of the two existing exhaust pipes as they exit the muffler may be a solution that any good muffler shop might attempt. If anybody has tried that I would love to know, is there any drone, is the noise just noise or wonderful Porsche music. The second question has anyone installed a Kline Exhaust system, it is till an expensive fix but I need to do something. Thanks for your comments. Karl D.

Karl, what's wrong with the SamboTT? Is it too "tame" or does it make an obnoxious sound or what?

Hey NoGaBiker thanks for trying to help. Someday when I figure out how to post on here I will send you a picture of my 550 Spyder nicely done by Russ owner of Fibersteel, in fact I will see him tomorrow Wednesday. That is my favorite car of all time, in fact I have a video I would like to send the 6Speedonline group but don't know how to do that.

As to the SamboTT muffler he did a great job on removing 1/2 of the Cats and installing them with 2-200 cell cats, cats he tells me that will pass smog when the time comes. Cutting holes in the muffler, something we did as kids I will not participate in since it will be almost impossible to pass smog. Have not seen or heard of anybody out there using a Kline Exhaust system, a system SamboTT said he would have in a few weeks, don't know if I want to spend another 2k to make it sound like a Porsche, but I have do something.

The problem now that SamboTT upgraded the performance chip in the car, GIAC K16 is what he told me, the extra air tries to get out of a restricted muffler and sounds like ****, like someone behind me is ripping paper, it does not make the sound of a Porsche or anything I like, and that is my dilemma, also don't want drone. Karl D.

Karl,

I have that same exhaust as you know. I tried a Speedtech, but for my ***** ears and daily drivability, chose to go back to the Modified OEM by SamboTT.

I agree that it "whooshes" but for me (and maybe me only) it's the only system that has NO drone and does increase flow to work with my mods.

Sadly, there are those very specific tradeoffs.... Flow or no drone. I couldn't live with the drone of what is supposed to be the quietest system out there, the Speedtech 2.5. That system was likely one of the quieter ones, and it did give me a seat of the pants 20-30 HP and better throttle response.
FYI, I am running GIAC 650(?) with no codes. Never had them and flew past the smog station with no issues....

Oh to have it all....

I loved my 100cell Milltek on my 18g set up..I had a modified stock and Cargraphic before that.
Then I just bought, dynoed, tried a Fabspeed 2.75 X pipe.. Did a thread on it.
I must be getting old because I put the Milltek back on because I liked the Stealth mode better and makes driving it everyday in the city more enjoyable.
