Hi all.
Motor is warm, powering onto an onramp, second gear goes
well at most-throttle, but on changing up to third, gassing
it just gets a bogging hesitation as if the fuel was cut off.
Lifting the throttle to a cruise amount, and the car runs
OK. There's over half a tank of gas, and I was going straight
so no chance of gas sloshing away from the pickup...

Could be the plugs. Check those first.

 

Spark plugs for sure!!

 

Joe, assuming no codes or CEL? Might want to get the codes read (as they don't always throw lights). My guess woul also be plugs at this point.

Yeah, not the MAF, when I had MAF issues I just got a CEL light, no change in how the car drives.

 

any lights flashing while you're on it? Put it in 3rd gear at low rpms going about 35-40mph and then floor it.... if you get to 4.5Krpms and it starts to hesitate/buck then it's your plugs Joe.

 

I also noticed you wont get any lights on the dash if you dont ride out the hesitation a few times under full throttle, so its not an accurate measure to tell in most cases!

Ok, two more runs. I turned off PSM just in case. Hard second-to-third
got a serious stuttering and a little backfire on the gas in third. A hard
pull from low RPM in third resulted in it simply plateauing, holding at
about 4000 RPM with the gas floored...

Damn... that was fast. Takes me that long just to get down to the garage where my car is.

 

And what are the plugs we run nowadays? (I seem to recall
that Porsche changed the recommended plug at one point...

It has to be the Mobile-1, Joe.


The plugs are Bosch FR6 LDCs'.
