Flat Tire Repair on Michelin PS

Flat Tire Repair on Michelin PS
Got a small nail in my 315 MPS that I bot at Tire Rack. I took it to a shop that had a "no touch machine" so I could be sure they wouldn't scratch up my factory GT2 wheel. Afterward, I wondered if I should have just replaced the tire, since I get into the triple digits often. I didn't even think about at the time. Should I replace it? Does the repair weaken the tire significantly?

David,
I had a nail puncture in one of my 315's last year. The authorized Michelin dealer said that the only way to properly repair the flat was to dismount the tire, grind the inside area quite a bit around the hole and use a proper patch. I watched him do it...plugs are not acceptable.
He also said Michelin says you can only have one puncture repair on a high performanace tire for safety reasons...sounds like a smart idea but just means more $$$ for the dealer/Michelin...dunno how true that last statement is though..common sense I guess.

I would recommend replacing the tire if you plan on driving at three digit speeds. I definately would on my own car, mostly likely both rears at the same time. It is a lot easier to recommend it than go write a check for it though, so it's really what you feel confortable with. The last thing I want in the back of my mind while cruising over 100 is fear of a blowout.

Thanks, guys.
Ben, That's a good point about a plug repair. There's no way I would allow that. they did a "proper" patch on the inside of the tire. On another note, what did you ever do w/ that OME flywheel?

Hey David,
It is in the car right now, I dropped the motor two weeks ago and replaced my Tilton triple disc for the dual mass you sold me and a single disc Sach's setup. It's so nice to have the dual mass back in. Changed a leaky injector 3 and plugs at the same time. She is running very strong now as I have the new EVOMS Hitachi MAF and new program.
