3M film

Has anyone besides me had to have their clear bra installers come back repeatidely to redo the film installation process until they got it right? I am still not thrilled after the second time back

I am thinking of using speed lingerie mirror covers on a 996TT
Has anyone had any experiences with these, I once had them on a Viper and hated them, they wrapped completely around to the mirror glass and looked out of place

Any feedback would be appreciated

I had it done well & right the 1st try on my C2, but the same installer did my turbo and did a poor job. He's doing it again for free now. It's so worth it when it's done right. Speed Lingerie or any other kind of leather bra sux in comparison.

The reinstalls are free if you go to a certified installer.

I've had to get pieces of ClearBra redone on my GTI, and soon on my GTI again and the Turbo. As long as you have a certified installer do it (as Scott in H-town said), you'll be able to get it redone for free.

I've had bits and pieces replaced from time to time, so yes it's possible. The mirror backs seem to be a problem for mine. The one thing I do know, is it doesn't get better with time. If you don't like the looks of it when the installer finishes, you won't like it one day, one week or one month later.

And I guess I'm differ with ScottH. I have clear bra on my Turbo, but did not get it on my Boxster S. The stuff "ain't" as permanent as you'd like, you will be replacing pieces from time to time, and there's something about yellow bug guts (it can stain, which eventually wears off and looks like hell until it does fade away).

And I've noticed just the slightest bit of yellowing on the mirror backs after two years (but the sunlight has to hit it just right to see it).

There is a certain nuisance factor you have to tolerate with the stuff.

BTW, the mirror bras work great (that's what I use with the Porsche bra sans fender covering on my Boxster S). Yeah, they hang over the edge of the mirror a bit, but it doesn't bother me.

Most car folks I know in the Seattle area use Stoneguard (local installer) and have had good to very good luck. Some re-do as others noted, but well worth it overall.

A friend of mine had 4 cars done which cost big bucks. The Cayenne, which they did not get right the first time had to come back the do it again. They didn't allow him to pay for any of the cars until they were all done and he was happy with everything. That is GREAT customer service.

Stongard is horrible.

And the 3M film will chip and tear. But hopefully it protects the bumper/factory paint.

But it does provide peace-of-mind and is a better alternative to not having it at all. ****-retentive people will not like it too much since it isn't invisible if you know it's on the car and you care about things like that.

Accutint in Bellevue and Seattle is the place to go for the install. All the good installers from Stongard quit and moved over to Accutint.

How can it be Horrible if the 3M film is the same? Isn't it all about the ability of the installer?

Arling -- What are you talking about? Did I miss something or are you just pulling my leg?

seriously, Edre (installer) said that roll of film he used had some spots that wasn't as clear as usual. if u're not happy with it he can redo it again if u like.

Arling -- I was counting on you guys to make sure it was perfect. I won't notice any defects until I get around to doing my wash/wax routine. Which side should I inspect with the magnifying glass?

It's not horrible. I had it for 2 years on my car with ZERO yellowing or pealing or anything.
If you had it do that, you got ripped off and should have had it replaced for free.

It has a lifetime warranty against all those things.

Even yellow bug stains bleach out in the sun.
