PSS9's and RWD conversion scheduled

I am going to get the suspension done tomorrow (PSS9's set to GT2 ride height) and am planning on doing the RWD conversion at the same time. I have no doubts about doing the suspension because it looks so bad at the current ride height, but am only about 90% sure about the RWD as opposed to AWD. I don't drive it in the rain or snow, so I can't see much reason for AWD. Why did Porsche make the car AWD anyway? Is there a downside to RWD if you only drive on dry roads? Will I need new rear tires every 6 months? Does anyone see any reason not to do the RWD?

I know there are several people who have done the RWD and like it, I don't know of anyone who did it and switched it back.

I have the same set up and love it. Every time I drive the car I am happy I did the RWD conversion.

That seems to be the general concensus here. All I can see is positive reaction, and no negatives at all. I am confused as to why Porsche designed the car as AWD to begin with.

I think if you go with Gt2 ride height with PSS9's you'll hit bumpstops.

I'm going threw the same dilema! Are you going with an LSD? Since I'm tracking the car, I am! Now i hear that it's only 70lb compared to 110 of weight savings!

RWD conversion is great..... In high speed corners the car will get a touch unstable w/ loss of traction to the inner tire..... In slow/lower speed corners you will notice the same thing(upon powering out) ... Go with an LSD to complete the conversion...

I am confused as to why Porsche designed the car as AWD to begin with.
I believe that this goes back to the old 930 days when Porsche got a very bad rap and sued several times because that cars turbos would spool up very slowly and usually would hit like a brick wall half way through a turn. MANY people apparently spun those cars and since then Porsche swore to never make another turbo powered production car that was not AWD. I know my 930 from years back was pretty crazy to drive, but a lot of fun. Got very close to losing it a few times in that car. Should be fun to see how yours handles.

Does seem odd though that they made the GT2??? Guess limited production was the reasoning....

70lbs is still alot of extra weight, but it is supposed to be more of a difference because of the power losses thru the front drivetrain to turn the additional driveshaft and front diff.

I guess that makes sense from a safety/legal point of view. So it was not designed as much for performance, but to keep the car safer for the average driver, right?

What does it cost to do the LSD?
edit- I found it GuardTransmission.com

There are some down sides. From what i've heard, a two wheel drive turbo is very different from that of a GT2. Maybe Shark can chime in here and explain this a little.

Good choice on the suspension and conversion, it will be tons of fun. You will be surprised of how useable it is without any traction loss (due to lack of lsd and if you aren't well over 600hp and torque) The diff. in feel between the GT2 and Turbo with just rwd conversion is still night and day though, not useless at all!
