NY Front Plates?

NY Front Plates?
Anybody know whether I would get harassed for not running a front licence plate (registered in NY) in NY? What if I was driving in other states, such as NJ and CT? Really think the front plate ruins the look...

in CT no, since i believe you do not need a front plate in CT.. and NJ you should be okay too.. just watch out in NY state, mainly when you are parked (you will get ticketed) and when you pass thru bridges/tunnels (you will also get ticketed, especially around the midtown tunnel in NYC.. they always harrass me there)! hope that helps!

I'm always using the Bridges & Tunnels to escape the urban jungle, would putting the plate on my dash during those 'slow escapes' avert being pulled over and ticketed? Guess having bumper plugs doesn't help the cause
ahh, what to do...

An interesting thread for someone who lives in upstate NY. My dealer called and asked whether I wanted the bumper drilled and plate mounted before I picked up the car. He pointed out the risks but said that many 911 owners up here opt not to mount the plate for sake of aesthetics. I decided to take the risk. Only two and half weeks (2100 miles) and no problems yet. At least it won't be a moving violation if I do get one. Does anyone know how much such a ticket would cost (ballpark figure is fine)?

I personally haven't got a ticket but I have been harrased a few times. if the car is being parked in private property your ok, but on the steets you will get one. Most tt owners pull them out on weekends, they shoul'nt have a problem!

been driving with no front plates for 2 years in brooklyn... and all i can say is that if you park in the NYC area (5 boros) in meters you will get ticketed. If you park in the NYC area, street parking, without meters, you have a high chance of not getting a ticket since the meter maids arent assigned to those areas.
Be careful of tunnels. they are the worst since they are the biggest hazard in respect to terror attacks. More cops (tunnel and bridge cops) are assigned. Especially the ezpass lanes. their are usually more cops at the ezpass lanes than the cash lanes.
i did get harassed (ticket) before using the lincoln tunnel. the bumper plugs really dont help since it looks nice n clean therefore you cant use the following excuse.
I told the officer that someone just backed up into my car and he didnt believe me. Now i keep a license plate in my glove compartment and when i need to pass by the tunnels i put it on my dash.
Saved me once, and is definitely better than having no front plate at all.
-on highway driving i had many troopers zap me with laser, and many cops see me and never had a word said to me. I get pulled over for nonesense every now and then and dont get harassed for the plates. Having cop freinds/badges is always a plus, but thats already a different story. They barely talk about the front plate...
bottom line if you park you car privately and avoid tunnels you should be fine. Keep the front plate in the glove compt just in case.
....all the above mentioned crap, just so the front of the car will look better, lol. Car looks bad with the front plate.

For those excursions where you are at high risk of a ticket try this:
http://www.moweraxle.com/
Goes right in the tow hook recepticle. Unscrews off quickly to go back to the better look.

I just got pulled over for no front plate last week by a trooper. Got me for that, tint and expired inspection. Totally forgot to get it done since the car was away for the winter and I haven't been driving it. This is the first time in a few years that I have gotten the no front plate ticket so it really is a crap shoot. That being said, I have no front plate on my CTTS either and will deal with whatever repercussions come from it. Good luck........

I've never been pulled over for a plate, but I'm in Manhattan, so cops really aren't paying too close attention. I have, however, been ticketed with no front plate once as an addition to a parking ticket, but luckily I've gotten maybe 30-40 other parking tickets (across the city) without any front plate ticket.
