GT3 Seats - Do the airbags still work?

I have installed my Porsche Tequipment factory GT3 seats and Rollbar, and 6 point harnesses in my 02tt I just love the comfort and secure feel, and of course they look awesome and all business!

I had to disconnect the wiring from the original seats dureing the install so I am wondering what would happen if I get into an accident, will the airbags deploy? Are there sensors in the stock seats? I have disconnected the standard seatbelts and the red round seatbelt not buckled light is always on now. Anyone know the facts on this one? thanks

I do not KNOW the answer, but if you disconnected the wiring under the seats you will get codes. It is not connected to the airbag though. Your airbag will still work (otherwise you would get the airbag light). The wires should be re-connected and then get the codes cleared with a PST2 or PIWIS.

You can disconnect the seats without throwing the codes. The "how to" can be found with a search.

This is easy...just disconnect the battery, the problem is they need to be re-connected before re-connecting the battery...I think.

I disconnected everything under the driver's seat and did not disconnect the battery. No airbag light, no codes.

I lost my side mirror memory function though, so I guess I'll try pulling the box out from under the old comfort seat and reconnect it to the harness.

I followed the information on-line and made sure my battery was disconnected when I did all my work. I reconnected all the wiring for the seat belts but could not reconnect it to the seats because they were (obviously) gone. I did not reconnect the battery untill all the work was done and no codes. My question is what about the air bags, will they still function properly since the stock seats are now gone? Are there electronics in the seats required for the airbags to fuction properly?

Are't there weight sendors in the factory seats that are obviously disables when the stock seats are removed?

The 996 cars do not have pressure sensors in the seats because they have rear seats. There is a sensor in the seatbelt buckles.
The correct wire harness parts can be ordered to refit the buckle wiring correctly when installing GT3 seats. It is a PITA to wire correctly and is much easier to disassemble the old harness from the stock seat and simply plug the seat belt buckle portion of the harness into the car harness. You will need to find some way to keep it attached though since the main clip will still be attached to the seat.

So the airbags will not deploy unless the seat belt buckles are plugged in? That sounds weird. So if you were driving with the stock seatsand crashed without your belt on the airbag would not deploy??

Wow...once again...the airbag WILL deploy regardless of the seatbelt. The seatbelt sensor is just an idiot light The deployment of the airbag is a separate mechanism.
