RS Clutch and Flywheel, impressions
I recently had my 2nd gear popout tranny problem fixed under extended warranty. While it was being done I decided to have a new clutch and flywheel installed. After spending much time and research deciding what type of clutch and flywheel to choose I had a conversation with Robert at Redline Motorsports here in Arizona. He is very knowledgeable in the world of Porsche and works on Cup cars often. He is a specialist in suspension and alignments. He has also done custom tuning on 996tt's. After a lengthy discussion he pointed me towards a Porsche motorsports setup with a variety of RS parts. The car is complete now and I have had a few weeks to get a feel for it. I am completely happy with the setup and thought many of you here would be interested in a similar package.
It consists of...
964 RS ring gear, factory.
964 RS flywheel single mass flywheel, factory.
Sachs racing pressure plate.
996 Porsche Motorsport clutch disc.
The feel of the clutch engagement is much smoother than my previous EVOMS stage 1 clutch with OEM flywheel. I would imagine that it is exactly like a stock feel.
The flywheel is a blast, noticeable quicker reving than before. Noticeably more power in first and second gears. The difference in exhaust sound was the first thing I noticed, reving quicker just gave the exhaust a punch that it didnt have before. The second gear pull puts a smile on my face everytime. I see no downsides to the flywheel at all. No noise at all when driving, no noise when idling with the clutch pedal in and only a very faint chatter when idling in neutral. I cant see how it would bother anyone. Not too sure how much power or abuse the clutch will take but possibly 600 or 650 bhp.
All in all a great mod, I would highly recommend this setup and Redline Motorsports who also installed it.

Ive probably only put 500k miles on mine since the install but I will let you know if the chatter gets worse.

Did same with Kevin at UMW....
Same thoughts. Same parts. He put it all together for me, shipped it fast, and put instructions in the box for my mechanic (guru mechanic, but appreciated nonetheless on all ends).
Reverse going uphill can be tough on the stalls....but otherwise it is really great. I heard 600hp pushed it.
Not grabby, etc.
