Also, do you still get all the car computer data that the stock unit used to get? and if so, how does this work on a new head unit? I have an '01 996TT and was considering replacing the head unit as well.

I also had the same thing, make sure your speakers are all working/connected , the setting are a ***** to setup with an aftermarket headunit, but after a while i got it pretty good. Sound quality and speakers still sucked though, ah well, car sounds so good i leave it off

No, but you can get the unit with NAV. I'm old school, use a map or get lost

anams - No I don't get the data - temp and time etc.

Martin - the shop took 8 hrs to do the install and said it was a ***** to get all the wiring right and sound to everything. I actually think it sounds good now, just needs a sub. The front doors of the TT are acoustically fantastic and the new head unit allows for a better spatial setup and has a better equalizer.

onetime - now worries, glad to help.

Installed the Brand-new Avic-D3. It's sweet. http://law.wustl.edu/gant/911_Twin_Turbo/Avic-1.JPG

Notice, rear-view-camera!! Gonna put the slide-out, 2002 cup holder above the unit.

Double Din Touch
Navigation
Rear-View Cam
IPOD connector run to the center console
Bluetooth, Sirius, XM available.

$1600 and change, installed!

Would be nice if I had any idea how to post pics at this place....

I played with the EQ on my Alpine today and it made the sound about 4x better. I'm sure audio guru's will tell me I'm dumb but to me it sounds bad ***.

Isn't there an aftermarket sub that fits in the BOSE Box, and can use the factory amp?

Stock nav still worked with that unit or is that aftermarket?

Not exactly sure what you mean. I had the CDR-220 in and bought the newly released, "aftermarket" Pioneer Avic-d3

The Avic-D3 comes with Nav. I have it too (although I paid 800 for mine $1000 installed) and it works quite well. The sound still sucks though because the speakers/amp are terrible and my case 6 years old to boot.

It looks identical to yours except I have the Nav disc underneath it still because I don't know what I am going to put there yet (Maybe the V1 stealth install). In fact, I have the same interior color so it really looks identical to yours!

Funny story too. My girl was messing around and threw a **** in the DVD player and I almost forgot about it and left it in there today when I dropped the car off for service. Heheheh.

I looked it up it comes with its own nav, I didn't know if it just hooked up to the existing OEM nav (I don't know radio stuff very well)

Thanks

What do you mean, the Nav-disk underneath. Underneath what? You mean the unit is in the bottom 2 shelfs? Snap some shots, I'd love to see.
