Bullrun Rally Day 7 - Miami to Key West Finish

Day 7 was the final stage of the 2007 Bullrun from Miami to Key West. Having touched almost every state on the East Coast, we were now headed to the most southern tip of the Continental USA. Enduring tickets, speed rushes, minor incidents, and meeting many new people, I was excited to finally reach the end of this week long adventure. The party at the Versace Mansion the night before goes down in history as one of the most insane places I have ever been, but like all other nights we had an early departure.

With the cars down in the valet and a crowd brewing, one by one we had our cars pulled up in front of the lavish Ritz Carlton in Miami Beach. We pretty much jammed the street and Police had to come in to enforce traffic. The fake hotel security guards were getting pretty annoyed so Bullrunners only fueled their fire with engine revving and horn honking. Our first checkpoint was at the new CEC, www.cecwheels.com, showroom in Coral Gables, Florida for breakfast. We all got the green flag and made a mad dash for the 11 mile short trip.

Once at CEC, we had a full service breakfast while checking out the hot cars and products from TechArt, AC Schnitzer, Brabus, and more. With a quick mini conference, the next route cards were tossed off the balcony where Bullrunners fought for them and quickly sprinted out of the building to their cars. A police escort led us out of Coral Gables at a high rate of speed to the highway where it was game on to Key West.

Reaching the start of the 2 lane highway into Key West, the scenary was phenomenal. Bridges, boats, houses, mini islands, and people. It simply amazed me that this stuff stays here year after year with all the hurricanes. I have never seen so many cops in one area in my life. Key West was flooded with police shooting laser and radar about every 500 feet. We cruised in safely to our lunch checkpoint at an offshore powerboat race. With the temperature at around 95 degrees with 90% humidity, it was time to jump back in the car for the final destination.

With the helicopter above us filming the train of exotic cars heading into the final Key West spot, a full Police escort supported us with about 20 officers blocking traffic and keeping us on point. The rush of reaching the end was near as the crowded bar filled streets of Key West cheered us on. Pictures were snapped and people were screaming. As we pulled to the finish and through the final Bullrun station, we were given medals and our final time. We parked next to the others and got out of the car to celebrate. Cheersing mohitos, we embraced the other Bullrunners we had followed so intently for a week. Hugs, high fives, and smiles circulated the parking area. It was finally done.

Touching almost every state on the East Coast and gathering a combined 4 tickets, the 2007 Bullrun was definitely an experience. As my 4th rally since 2003, this goes down as my favorite. The people I met, the roads we traveled, and the lessons in life I learned as we toured for 7 days from Montreal to Key West. There will always be more stories to tell, but the most important thing is we made it to the end, and safely. Congrats to all that experienced the Bullrun with us and for those reading along, glad you enjoyed it.

I want to send a big thanks to the Vivid Racing family for the support while I was gone. Pirelli Tires hooking up our Porsche. Rob at Intense Marketing for wrapping the car last minute which made a huge impact on the rally. Kristine, you are very talented with an excellent music career ahead of you and your father is one of the best people I have ever met. Jennifer Nicole, I never had more fun then ducting taping your busted headlight at a gas station. My main man Frank and fiancé Lynn, following the F430 and M6 could never get old. Lastly, my co-driver and good friend Victor. The look on your face as we saw Dale Earnhardt Blvd will be ever lasting. Glad we made it through together. Dave and Andy for starting Bullrun as your involvement and care was evident. Finally my girlfriend for being patient and supportive while I was gone. Right now, I think I might be retired from rallying, but who knows, there is always a new experience to go after! Until next time…Peace!
