Reverse lip or Step lip setup?

Im trying to decide what lip setup to go with prior to ordering my wheels.

Ive noticed more dealers promote the "reverse lip" rather than the "step lip" design.

Is "step lip" the new technology for wheels or simply a fad?

I prefer the step lip look (similar to speedline/BBS LMs lip design), IMO just gives a better deep dish look.

What do you guys think, go with Reverse lip or Step lip setup?

Thanks,

Step Lips can sometimes makes your wheels look smaller. I personally like the reverse lip look.

reverse lip is the newer technology. they basically turn the round part of the wheel and reverse it so now it sits in the rear. what this does, asthetically is create a larger window for the wheel designers to add spokes. generally, people with the reverse lip get 2 things: a) a nice deep dish in the rear wheels and, b) a much larger appearing wheel (read: I have 19" wheels with the reverse lip and they look like 20s). I would take a look at the hre web site (I think you can access this through the wheel experts (link is on the right hand side)). look at both the 540 and 540R series to see the difference. IMHO the reverse lip is the way to go but you have to go with what you like. Good luck and happy research. BTW, it took me close to 6 months to finally decide. it was worth the wait.

You guys are right, reverse lip does appear to have a bigger look to it, I didnt noticed that until you guys pointed it out.

With step lip, 19" looks as if it is only 18" (from side view of course).

The wheels Im probably going to buy is either Kinesis (mesh design) or Gemballa (mesh design).

Thanks,

If you track the car, reverse lip is not the way to go. Keep in mind that a reverse lip also adds about one pound or more to each wheel than the step lips, since the wheel centers are bigger. Mounting rubber is a bit more tricky with r-lip, so make sure the wheel shop knows what they are doing so that the rim edge is not damaged...fyi

The reverse lip also tends to be heavier due to the larger center and is not recomended for track use. Between the Gamballa or the Kinesis, the Kinesis should be the lighter of the two.

Gab,

How do you like Kinesis?

Cause Kinesis is actually my first choice of wheels but I havent heard much about their customer services and quality, so Im still "spinning my wheels" no pun intended, trying to decide lip setup and brand name.

Also, doesnt sound like reverse lip is strong, track or road. That scares me.

I've been hearing more and more that there is an issue with reverse lip failing to shed water in the rain causing temporary, but significant, out of balance conditions.

Hasn't anyone else heard/experienced this?

hmm, that is an interesting question / concept...
I do know they collect water during a wash that is a pain to remove depending on the particular wheel design and compressor / blower availability.

spin,

the wheels are great. I don't know anything about problems with the reverse lip. The tires on the car a crazy low profile so I'll never track them, still have the stocks. I just got these to floss and I am really happy with them.

Interesting . Since the tapered side is now behind the central spider on reverse lip wheels , the inner rim half holds the water like a trough even at speed ?!
