NHRA rules for street cars.

Here are the relevant rules for NHRA certified tracks for street cars.

NHRA Sport Compact 2007 rulebook PDF download here.
2007 Rulebook revisions here.

My summary:

1.3 Exhaust: All street stock must be equipped with functioning mufflers and may be required to meet maximum decibel levels at certain facilities.

1.12 Supercharger: Screw type supercharger prohibited.

1.15 Vent Tubes, Breathers: Tubes must terminate into a permanently attached catch tank with min capacity of 1 gallon. NHRA may introduce mandatory breather systems on all nitrous injected and/or boosted engines.

2.4 Driveline: All RWD 13.99 or quicker with slicks and 11.49 or quicker with street tyres must have a tailshaft loop.

2.5 Flywheel: Stock cast type flywheels prohibited for cars running 11.49 or quicker. Must use SFI Spec 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4.

Because the Roots superchargers can't compete and drag racers are knuckle draggers.

Not under Sport Compact. That pass was before Sport Compact rules as you know.

However under regular NHRA there will be a class where you can run a 996TT, so you will see a 911 run quicker than 9.17 in the fullness of time.

Wow. That's unbelievable! I figured that new 5.0L Whipple would be sitting on top of a lot of 540 c.i. drag engines. I guess not.

4.4 Frames: All cars running 9.99 or quicker must have a serialized chassis sticker affixed to the frame (NHRA issued).

Chassis certification, they want to make sure the roll cage is the correct size and is welded the proper way, the side bars are of xx distance and such

Hope that helps

It's talking about the rollcage certifications. Anything that is over 10pt (or goes over the drivers head and includes a Halo bar) has to be inspected by a local NHRA chassis inspector in order to be certified. To run a 8.5 (or slower) with a 10-12pt cage, a 7.5 (or slower) with a 25.5 Chassis (also has some weight factors, don't remember off the top of my head) and I want to say its 6.5 (and slower) for a 25.2 Chassis (also depends on weight).

An NHRA official must inspect the entire frame/chassis/cage (including from underneath) and certify that it meets NHRA specs.

This is all I'm waiting for on my Dodge before I get her teched to 8.50 and go for my license passes.
