litronic thieves!

Spoke with GM at Carlsen Porsche in Palo Alto (CA) this morning and he said that 10 sets of litronic headlights have been boosted in a month in Palo Alto area. Cops think being done by San Jose ring of low-lifes. These guys even have followed people home and hit cars not garaged, but parked off the street. Takes less than 3 minutes. Beware, this can cause serious fender and bumper damage costing up to 5K to repair. one owner had to replace entire fender on his car because these guys were such amateurs. This, according to earlier post, started in Florida and has spread west. Take care where you park!

I would want to have a car as bait, and then catch them when they are trying to steal it, and I would laugh my *** off when the whole lot of them goes to prison...

How can we make it difficult for them to steal? I was thinking of disabling the interior trunk switch and a good alarm.

Turn the headlight spray nozzels into napalm flame throwers... It should do the trick

They don't need to get into the bonnet to pull these out. As for the cayenne, Porsche beefed up the locking mechanism (bolt) and it is still being stolen. I don't think there is anything to be done to prevent it unless you wired a sensor to set off the alarm if the light is jiggled. I agree that the lights as is are not being sold, rather the "guts" are used or sold.

Angry

This really sucks. Even if Porsche can come up with a retrofit that makes the lights difficult to steal, the punks will keep trying (and destroying fenders) until most 996's are retrofitted and the word gets out.

I like tooling around Palo Alto in my 993 and I often run errands in it (compared to San Francisco where I only take the bus so as to keep my blood pressure in check).

I hate to think my new car is going to have to be a garage queen and only come out for weekend drives.

Headlight washers with pepper spray, or pop up with a spinning blade kind of like a ninja star.

What is this...Ricer's Revenge??? Makes me hate ricer's worse than ever. After all, it's their demand that feeds the supplier thieves...

I would take great pleasure in destroying a rice mobile with a hammer, if I was able to tell they were using Porsche lights!!!!
