Do you use, I was driving home last night and the low oil light came on, did the test and the last bar was flashing. The oil pressure gauge is staying on 5 while I drive. Do I need to put a quart in it to drive it today, I am taking it to my mechanic on Tuesday, don't want to hurt anything

I recommend Valvoline, Amsoil, Royal Purple, or Penrite. Markski and I use Valvoline in our cars, from our builder's recommendations.

Others on here may not agree, but I recommend staying away from Mobile 1 and Redline.

 

^which valvoline, will it hurt anything if I put in a quart or 2, I have no idea what is in the car.

Not oil again...Unless you are racing your car (and rebuilding your engine and changing oil every track day, etc.), you will not see any difference in the manufacturer of the oil you use (provided you are using synthetic). Certain race type oils do not contain detergents and wouldn't be recommended for every day use. Mobil1 is quite capable and is on the list of accepted oils (by the Porsche factory) (if you want the complete list you can get it hereRennTech)
The accepted weights are 0W40, 5W40, and 5W50. Of course what weight you use depends on driving style and environmental conditions. Go ahead and add some Mobil1 (get it at Costco)...

 

We use VR1, 20W-50.

I would personally drain it all out, and add my own oil and a brand new filter. But that's just me.

 

right now almost all the oils porsche recommends are either 5w40 or 0w40. additionally, all of the oils meet the acea 3 specifications. when i got my boxster, 15w50 was the recommended fill, but they have since revised it since porsche feels that 5 or 0 winter weight better lubricates the variocam merchanisms at startup. being in tennessee you should be fine with 15w50 as that is what i have in my car, especially if you dont drive it in the winter. next oil change i will switch over to 0w40 just for the peace of mind about the variocam stuff.

you can go with whatever brand you feel like. many go with mobil 1 since it is available everywhere (even walmart/sam's club) and is cheaper generally than the specialty oils such as amsoil/royal purple. you should be able to get 5 quart jugs of mobil 1 15w50 at your local walmart in the low 20 dollar range. 0w40 is more difficult to find, you will probably only be able to find it in quart bottles at autozone type places. cheapest i have found is a little bit under 6 bucks a quart at advance auto parts.

 

have used redline in all three p cars no leaks no probs, no repairs.... great stuff .. yes you can mix it if you have to ...

20-50!!! that is some thick **** bro. I ran that in a 454 camaro engine and liked it but it pours like syrup. Is that what todd suggests?

 

I think the 20 weight oil is for the monster motors that no longer have VarioCam?

I use 5w40.

 

Yep, he swears by it for our built engines.

 

I still have Variocam, bro. Even better than stock since I use GT3 code which allows it to be much more flexible than a stock 996TT's Variocam.

Amsoil Euro blend 5W-40 was what I used with stock internals.
