Luting,

Any decent hotel is going to be pretty expensive...especially that type of caliber. Welcome to NYC!

Actually, I know the new Westin by times square is offering a 199.99/night special. You might want to call them and see what the restrictions may be/if any. Also, i've heard decent things about Roger Williams Hotel.

As always you can never go wrong with Peninsula, St Regis, Pierre, Plaza or Waldorf. A lot of money, but, right on/off 5th ave for your GF to shop, shop and shop.

The hottest hotel in NYC is the new Manderan Oriental in Columbus Circle (but it is expensive, 800 buck a night for a regular room with a central park view)
A nice "bargin" hotel is the Essex House... good prices (200-300), 4 star, and it is on central park south with views of the park...

Luting,

Check out www.quikbook.com. I visit NYC about 3X/4X a year. I usually spend between $200-$300 a night. The Palace has some very good deals. It depends where you want to stay, how trendy you want the hotel (not sure how old you are). Le Parker Meridian is nice too. I have stayed at the Omni Bershire, and it is very nice, with big rooms, and is located right off of 5th Ave., so it is very close to the shops. The Plaza is very nice too, Waldorf, but the rooms were a bit small.

I think Sparks has gone down hill over the last 25 years, used to have incredible steaks, now theyre just ok. Peter Lugers is still good, but, most of the people left and started Mark Josephs downtown, which right now I think is one of if not the best steak place in manhattan.

Mark Josephs prepares an excellent steak as does Bobby Vans.
Puter Lugers in Brooklyn is great, the one in Great Neck is average.
Sparks is nothing special.

Blue Ribbon Sushi for the finest sushi in NYC.
TAO for a good meal and a nice ambiance.

Le Cirque is a must.
