There are rumors that the GTS-R race car's cam found its way into some of the 97-98 Coupe's.......my buddy had a 98GTS that was a true freak of performance and that may be the reason.
the really big issue of the 00-02 (creampuff's) is the ring location. They switched to Hypereutectic pistons (so not really cast, actually its what the supra's stock ahve too)......but the rings on the creampuffs are very high in the piston. This was for emitions. thus there isn't enough physical material between the tops of the pistons and the top ring to take much abuse and they get destroyed fairly easily.

Though it does have the side sill exit exhaust and stripes that run through the rear license plate where the 97-99 have rear exit exhaust and the stripes miss the license plate area. Little quirks, but nothing major.
The Gen III go the HP kick from a small displacement jump, 488 to 505ci.
I don't recall the 1/4 times off the top of my head but believe the fastest GTS time to be tested was 11.7 @119 in a 99. Thats bone stock, no mods, stock tires.
Not sure about the srt, it might be a hair quicker but the better these are drivers cars, and the better driver will always win.
The 10hp the ACR picked up was from a set of 'smooth tubes' which are just silicone air intake tubes and better filters. It also came with the BBS wheels and 5 point harnesses. Expensive package for what you get but those wheels cost a small fortune.
With a pump gas paxton on an SRT he's probably making low 600's to the wheels. A 97-99 forged piston GTS will do 800rwhp on pump gas (via TT) without any problems and give that srt a ghetto *** whooping he won't soon forget.
The best part is you can get a twin T4 67mm intercooled kit for a GTS, tuned, installed, and ready to rock for $15k these days. All said and done for $60grr you can have an 800rwhp pump gas car that will run for 100k miles without pulling a valve cover, and will have 750 sport bikes going
If you're interested I know of a 1k rwhp built motor, ported heads, all done up GTS that will likely be for sale in the near future, I believe he's looking for low 70's. With a fresh bottom end and brand new turbo system. Needs the $$ to finish his 'race car'
If you want shoot me a PM and i'll can give you the gory details of all the different systems, what to avoid, and all that.

Supra motors started life as a diesel, you can make no parts comparisons between those and a viper. The cast piston cars also had different rods (length and material) which puts a limit on HP potential. Yes the top ring was moved up a bit to reduce HC's and the PCM is a lot less tolerant on those cars. 99' and earlier the pcm doesn't care if you have cats in it or not, the downstream O2 sensor doesn't really do much. Pull the cats on a 00+ and it throws a MIL light and the car goes pig rich.
My opinion, I would only buy a 00+ to get my hands on a specific color. (Steel gray only in 00, graphite in 01, Sapphire only in 01', and the FE (red/white stripe) in 02. If red/black/silver are ok, then get the 'good years'.

Don't forget though, it's only about $5k to make that motor capable of holding more power than you'll ever know what to do with.

ABS started in '01 as well....
If anyone does get an 01 ever, just go ahead and replace the waterpump right away.
And I believe in 01-02 they also did the frame recalls before delivery

Dodge says 450 crank hp but they regularly do 430 to the wheels with a few "freaks" as you call them making upward of 450 off the show room floor. I doubt it's all cam but just a really well built motor that might have accidentally been a bit tighter than the others.

Sounds utterly fantastic, Nice Run and welcome Mr. V.
Do you have any P-cars as well?
