Which Motor Mounts?

Which Motor Mounts?
Ok, I've looked through all of the threads and can't figure out which ones to get. I'm looking for the best in terms of feedback and response (if you've installed them you know what I mean), without the drawbacks of solid mounts. Loved them on my last car, and for me has no drawbacks. If more noise and vibration is transmitted I'm not that worried about it. Here are the options:
Hard Rubber Motor Mounts for P96 (Carnewal)
P93 Rennsport Motor Mounts for P96/P97 (Carnewal)
- what is the difference between these?
WEVO Semi-Solid Motor Mounts (http://www.smartracing.net/pdfcat/sr...ngine_fuel.pdf)
- I can't confirm that these are a direct bolt-on for the 996TT. Has anyone used these?
I'm having my new clutch installed tomorrow, and I figured I'd have them installed except the shop I'm using wanted to quote me 10hr labor for them (turns out they're not taking the entire engine down to do the clutch). I told them they were nuts, no thanks. I figured it's a simple put the floor jack under the engine and take the old ones off and put the new ones in? What's the clearance like for tools in there - can this be done fairly easily once the car is on jack stands?
Thanks in advance

Jimmer,
Read this thread about the X73 motor mounts. They are a good option...

I am not really sure if you are serious about real race mounts, but if you are contact Rob at S Car Go Racing. Their mounts are hard a REAL noisey. Just ask Big Ben. He installed them and removed them because of all the noise they transfer. I have them and like them for the road feel, but they are noisey. As a side note you are wasting your time and money only doing the motor mounts. You need to do the tranny mounts also.
Here are some pics of the tranny mounts.
The motor mounts are similar. They are not for the faint of heart as every noise your car makes is transfered to the cabin. You will hear noises that you never new existed. Just a little hint, when our car was in Excellence April 04 issue and they turned a 1.6 second sixty foot time in 102 degree F ambient temperatures more credit was due to the suspension than the motor. The real problem with a hard suspension is when it lets go around a turn ........... there isn't much warning. But the outer limits experienced to that point are truly amazing.
I believe Wevo mounts were prototyped on KA, just like their Tilton three disk clutch was. Again I can't stress enough the noise. You will hear every part moving in your clutch assembly just as an example. The hard rubber mounts (you refer to above) are not even in the same class as the Delrin type material, but you don't get the all the noise or the road feel.

Jimmer,
The X-73 mounts are a nice improvement without being harsh or noisey. Replacing the motor mounts is about a 15min DIY. Could not be easier. I think I would look for a different shop.....either they're ripping you a new one or they've never done the job before and are guessing. I don't think I'd trust them with the clutch.

Thanks guys!
CJ - I know exactly what you mean. Here's a little story. When I was racing DSMs, I had solid front and tranny motor mounts in the car - just a little bit of hard urethane through the middle. I felt that the power transfer (it was a FWD turbo) was greatly improved, and it was definitely one of my favorite little mods (after removing the balance shafts). Kept the traction up front by not allowing the motor to transfer too much weight back, and I had much crisper shifting. HOWEVER, pretty soon I had big problems. First, all the torque I was producing caused the subframe to fail and the rear engine mount to shear off the cast iron block taking a nice chunk with it. This happened midway through a 1/4 mile blast. Not fun (the drive back from Darlington to Penn State that night with just a motorcycle tie-down and wire holding the engine in place, with fire spitting out the back and coolant everywhere is another story!). After I strengthened that up by custom fabricating a new 3-point mount, my tranny mount ripped out (next weak point). Fixed that by boring out the holes and throwing in two big studs. Sold it shortly thereafter - lost interest due to the exponentially increasing costs and hassle of always repairing the next weak link (not unlike what you're going through, but on a totally smaller scale).
So, what I'm trying to say is that was fun, but now I'm scarred for life and looking for something more inbetween. Now there are 3 choices - the X73, and the two Carnewal options. Any idea which one is the stiffest without going *****-out solid? I guess I'm just not as hard-core as you.
Thanks

Just crawl under the car and swap them out? It's really that easy, and there's enough room in there to get the required torque to remove them? Sweet.
