SL 65 or Turbo

My dad doesnt really drive our Turbo Porsche because he got it for me in a way and he knows it drives me insane when anybody drives my baby(the turbo). Right now we have a sl65 comeing in and we cant decide whether to buy it or not. My dad wont keep both the sl and turbo becuase he doesnt really need them both and for some reason he doesnt like cars anymore.
So what would you do in my position i pretty much will make the decision on which car we get so any help from you guys would be great. I know my dad will wanna drive the sl 65 and i kinda like haveing a Turbo Porsche to drive whenever (its basically mine). The sl is cool but i have always felt the Porsche Turbo is one of the greatest cars money can buy if not the greatest.

Thanks bill

Two completely different cars. The SL is still meant to be a grand tourer, even with all that HP and torque. Straight line acceleration will no doubt be very fast. But handling and steering will never be able to match the Turbo. The Turbo was engineered to be a sports car, and an AWD one at that!

Dont get me wrong. They're both aweseome cars but if you could only keep one, i'd say keep the Turbo.

Keep us informed on your decision.

The SL65 is powered by a V12 twinturbo engine...

There is only one thing to do in this situation...Flip a coin. Heads the merc, tails the porsche. They are very different cars indeed, and you have a tuff decision on your hands. I say keep your TT for yourself and tell your pops to get an sl500 or a used sl55...it will cost about the same in the end.

i had 2 sl55's and they both bombed on me ... mercedes quality has gone downhill ... if it was between the two cars and i knew for a fact that i wouldnt have problems i would take the sl ... but since ive diven 2 sl's already, i know that i cant trust the high performance mercedes engines.

go with the TT

Details on the blow merc's please?

Tough call. It's dad's cash so let him decide. Seriously, and don't pressure him. It's his money, his call. Be grateful whatever he decides.

as OKHJOON says, Mercedes quality is nowhere near where it used to be.

2ndly, IMHO you will get bored of the SL65 pretty fast while you can have fun in the Porsche for a long long time. Power without control is nothing. Numb steering and poor driver feedback = MBZ.

These 2 cars are completely different ... (assuming the SL65 is like every other mercedes as I haven't driven a 65). I think a more accurate comparison would be the SL65 vs. Bentley Continental GT -- they Bentley would be my choice in that matchup.

of course if you ask this on a MBZ forum you'll get a totally different answer

Mercedes quality is down to $hit. In the past 5 years had 4 different models and I made trips to the dealership at least twice a month, for real.

So decided never ever buy another one as long as I'm alive. And also dedicated my time to advise others against the brand.

Don't fall for V12, Turbo charged, 1 million horse power kind of crap, there is no way in hell mercedes could match or offer the quality and the performance of Porsche.

Hence, keep the TT you won't regret.

First of all, I own two MBZs and have been a Benz owner for 19 years . There is definitely a drop in quality and not just the well known high tech electronic gizmo glitches that plague owners of 2002-2004 Benzes. You should hear how exaspirated some owners are at the service write-up areas. One guy was driving a new CL55 and was swearing to anyone within shouting distance that this was his last MBZ after 25 years . He was threatening to get a Honda( !) or Lexus because he was tired of coming into service every month for another problem.
It was interesting how the head of Lexus in the US says " luxury " today means " free time " for many high end buyers and wasting time ( like repeated service visits) is a negative point no matter the relative engineering merits of different brands. I guess the guy in the example above was proving that point.
